Perhaps you've spent too much money and time patronizing Captain Jack and his ilk to know that the song and "The Piano Man" album were from 1973.

JJC Points:

I gave Estonut a JJC point, though I don't know if ti was for any actual humor answers or for the fact that he seemed to be channelling Fanny....

Fanny got 2 JJC points for slipping Glendon Rusch in there, who has been resigned to a minor league contract by the Rockies, so she can make the trip up north to see him anytime she wants this year...

Sprots got a JJC point for Edward Hare, and I actually looked him up to see if he did "I Love a Rainy Night" until I caught the play on words!

Kay got a JJC point for thinking of ES grinding, and another JJC point for making me edit her post due to the spoiler snafu....

mrkelley got a JJC point for invoking Dubya on #15...

TBone gets a JJC point for being old...

Clem was back in fine form and gets his 5 point supermax, if not Captain Jack....

They both had crappy movies made out of them by trying to stretch a < 4 minute story song into a 90+ minute movie. Close enough?

If he has a minor league contract, I guess I could just walk down the street to see him. Doesn't mean I will, though Ha!

Depends on if he makes the team or not....

You should have Sky Sox season tickets. Section 313, Row 1 Seat 13 and all that good stuff....

I can't help picturing Barbara Eden when I try to think of Jeannie C. Riley, and I have to stop and think if she was in the Harper Valley movie, or if The Vagueness is conjuring up "I Dream of Jeannie C. Riley."

I don't recall actually watching either movie, though....

Hey! I shoulda got the max too, as that is a good pun, vs. the bad puns which have been proliferating of late.

I've seen both movies, and IMHO they lightened up Ode to Billie Joe a bit too much by leaving out the last verse -- Dad's death, Mom's malaise, and so on. They basically ended the movie at Billie Joe's death, and the ending was less somber than I think it deserved. So yeah, it was a crummy movie compared to what it could have been.

Barbara Eden did indeed star in Harper Valley PTA, which (again IMHO) was great fun. I don't think they could have done any better with that one -- coming of age, single mom taking on the establishment, a revenge tour -- one of those movies I remember enjoying but don't need to see again.

Barbara Eden played Stella Johnson in both the movie and the tv series. Ode to Billy Joe starred the quintessentially teen angsty 70s duo of Glynnis O'Connor and Robby Benson. And, if that wasn't enough, it was directed by Jethro Beaudine!
