Chat -- Now in Bored Reference Sticky thread

#1 Post by tubadave » Sun Oct 12, 2008 10:06 pm

I have managed to prop the door open to one little missing piece of the previous version of the Bored:

Chat!

The link will actually take you to the old front page for the Bored. Things to remember:

1. You'll find that the only two links on the entire page that work are the "Log in" link and the "Chat" link.
2. You must log in on the old Bored before going to Chat....being logged in on the new Bored will have no effect.
3. Your password on the old Bored will be the same as whatever it was when I did the upgrade a few days ago.
4. Changing your password on the new version of the Bored will NOT change your password on the old version.
5. You will not be able to log into Chat with any ID that was created since the upgrade. If it didn't exist on the old Bored, you can't chat with it. Newcomers who had no ID on the old version are out of luck, for the moment.

This set up isn't quite the way I'd like to do things, but until I can find a way to get Chat fully integrated into everything again, this will have to do.

Enjoy. 8)

I'd try it, but I don't think anybody's around right now.

Thanks, Dave!

I'm around. Wanna be among the first to try it out?

I am watching Rock of Love Charm School, but for you, BoB, I'll help you. If I can follow the instructions.

Although I don't really care about chat, but I find that I'm in dire need of a Hello, Kitty board style.
We, the HK Brigade, do hereby salute you, Marley, for your steadfast devotion to ontopicosity. Well done, sir!

So... What did you think of Charm School? I watched it, and then I sort of half-watched Pick Up Artist II.

I've added this thread to the Sticky Bored reference thread. I expect that in the next day or two or three it will be time to "de-Announce" it. --Bob

I don't know about that. The only way I can get to chat is by clicking the link, which I would like to find as conveniently as possible. I have absolutely no idea how to get to the old board without that link, because my old bookmark brings me right here to the new set-up.

Can't you bookmark the new link (the one that now leads to the old bored)?

My concern is that people have in the past had issues with too many threads "stuck" to the top of the bored. For those with smaller displays, it's inconvenient because they have to scroll down every time to see what's new.

Come to think of it, though, it should be just as easy to add the Chat link to the Sticky thread, rather than a link to this thread. I'll do that now. --Bob

I've modified the Chat link somewhat (it uses a subdomain of wwtbambored.com now, as I had intended for it to, just hadn't gotten around to changing things yet) and made the appropriate edits, both at the top of this thread, and in the Reference thread.

And since Chat is now in the reference thread, I've removed this thread's Announcement status.
