Dutchess County

#1 Post by peacock2121 » Thu Nov 08, 2007 6:33 am

Our legislature is now lead by the democrats. First time in 30 years.

I am astonished.

FDR is from here and the only time the county voted for him was in 1910 for state senate and 1930 for governor.

They didn't vote for him for president?

Maybe they knew him too well as senator and governor.

I don't think that is what it was. We have always been a very Republican county. Hamilton Fish Jr just kept getting elected. Then his son ran - as a democrat - his son has the same name - and lost BADLY.

Although we did get rid of the woman who beat the son - for a different democrat.

Maybe we are getting more and more 'outsiders' to move in and vote.

My city went from one elected Dem to three. Our state senate swung over, too.

People are just disenchanted with the status quo.
