New Jeopardy Season -- Today's Episode

#1 Post by TheConfessor » Mon Sep 08, 2008 4:02 pm

The music sounds more wimpy. The graphics have been tweaked, but nothing radical. Other than that, it looked about the same. I heard they're planning some new features for their 25th anniversary year, but there was nothing of that nature today.

Alex slipped in a personal observation immediately after reading the Final Jeopardy clue. I thought that was inappropriate, but it probably didn't change the outcome. Though it might have.

I think it's her husband that's perky...on Thursdays.
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

The Kids Reunion Shows feature kids from the first and second season of the Kids Week Shows. These shows aired during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. Maddie was on the show in 2005.

Hopefully not before the 12-month time limit for retaking the test passes since the last online test, or all of us who took it this year will be denied our chance for another year!

Meanwhile, today's J! was pre-empted here so that they could show taped highlights from the U.S. Open.

As if I wasn't already in a bad mood from watching all the changes on SyndieBAM.

Just FYI ... Kurt Davies, who came in second tonight, is a Scrabble player and a friend of Jason's and mine.

No Millionaire due to station changes (apparently no longer shown in this area) and also had US Open tape delayed in Jeopardy's time slot tonight.

I need Marley's grumble big time tonight.

I had gotten an email a while back, maybe a month or two ago, that said the test would be in early 2009. So I don't think it will be an issue.

I wish that people who make veiled references like this would explain them in a spoiler for those of us who might be intrigued but didn't see the show.

Alex basically interepreted the clue, adding "Must have had a change of heart!" or something to that effect. And I suppose it could have changed the outcome, but I think the first place player who lost WAY overthought the question.

The new music is terrible.

The opening music isn't that bad, but the "think" music is weak in comparison to previous versions. I also noted Alex's comment after revealing the FJ! answer and wondered if that might have provided a clue. Since the RJC missed the question, though, perhaps not.

My DVR indicated that this was the first show of the 25th season but also said that this was the first "Kids Week" reunion, which it certainly was not.

So would I be eligible since I tried to take the test but was interrupted by a power outage? Or am I doomed once again?

I also thought the new J! music was awful-it sounds like a little kid playing with a toy piano! We hafta listen to THAT all season??

I knew Final Joepardy!. I thought it was easy-I guess they're saving the harder stuff for later in the season.
I'm just a game show nerd.

Who knows? Didn't you try to inquire about your status after that happened?

I did, but the answer I got was too late to be of any value. I was told that I could have taken the test either of the subsequent nights, but the e-mail didn't arrive until over a month later.

So, if they've recorded that status in their database (a big "if") then you should be good to go.

I just hope they remember all the thousands of us who didn't get interrupted by a power outage but would still like to take the test on an annual, rather than biannual basis.

Hey, all!

First, apologies for being a stranger. My "sad postcard" came last week. At first I was upset with goongas for bursting my balloon, but it actually let me down easier. I was out of town the week it came, so I knew I didn't have to ask a neighbor to check my mail for me.

Second, I meant to post before the J! season premiere that Kurt Davies is one of my best friends in Scrabble and it was so awesome to see him play so well, esp. since he "mathed" Final J! correctly when I'd given him some advice about it before his taping.

Kurt and I were talking today about his experience and he asked if I noticed Alex's "change of heart" comment in Final J! (which I hadn't, as I was distracted at that point, in part by the garish new "think music" which caused all my co-workers to crowd around the screen). He said he knew it was Galileo, but Alex's comment confirmed it for him. It wasn't until later that he thought it might've been inappropriate. Indeed, if that comment helps Greg, then it gives him the win. He misses, Kurt wins.

So, Kurt is thinking about filing a protest/complaint. However, he said he doesn't want to look like a complainer/get Alex in trouble, etc. And it's not like that spoiled the experience for him; he's very happy with the $2k. But, he would LOVE a chance to get another bite at the apple since this J! experience was so awesome for him. I took the stance: "What've you got to lose?" but he said he wouldn't even know how to begin. I said I'd throw it out to a group of game show fans, see what they said. I'm glad somebody picked up on the inappropriateness already; I doubt he'd look like a whiner by bringing it up.

Like I said, sorry I've been scarce. August was way hectic, September looks to be more of the same. Moving to a new apartment in a week or two, etc.

Hope y'all are well! Any advice you can pass along re: protest would be greatly appreciated (esp. since I'd want to claim a cut of anything he won the second time around). :D

I think he'd have a hard time making a case. Alex's comment would have helped everyone equally.

By the way, here's a nice photo of you and a certain other BB:

Well, it obviously didn't help Emily. :)

P.S. Anybody got a copy of the episode I can score? I don't think my Mom got my message to tape it.
