RIP Don Haskins

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Sun Sep 07, 2008 6:45 pm

Legendary Texas Western (now Texas El Paso) basketball coach whose all black starting team beat Adolph Rupp's all white Kentucky team for the 1966 national championship in one of the most memorable college basketball games of all time.

Haskins retired in 1999 with over 700 wins, seven WAC championships and 14 NCAA tournament appearances. The story of his championship team was made into the movie Glory Road with Josh Lucas as Haskins.

Age 78.

I always enjoyed watching him when UTEP came to play us in Albuquerque. Thanks for posting this.

I enjoyed Glory Road very much.

It's not Hoosiers -- no movie is -- but it is a fine movie, even if we already know the outcome.
