Politics: technical question

We are flipping channels and stopped on all these states passing. Are they declining to commit their delegates to allow some pre-determined person to vote to nominate McCain by acclamation?

Never mind. We get it.

They all held off so Arizona could cast the delegates that put him over.

I guess I was confused about Arizona being out of alphabetical order.

I don't get the order either. I'll inquire with the brainiacs at the state party tomorrow.

Not much to the explanation. The states and territories vote in alphabetical order. It is pre-determined what state gets to put the nominee over the top, and it almost always is the nominee's home state. When it gets close to the magic number, states will pass so that the "right" state gets the honor. Since Arizona is so early in the order, they passed. Interestingly, it looks like Nebraska might have been the first state to pass, in that they were the first state to vote after Arizona the 2nd time through.
