2009 is the 50th anniversary of the Statehood of Alaska and Hawaii. Now its seems during that year one of those states with have a native sworn in as either President or VP. (yes I know Palin was born in Idaho)

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
