Call from an unexpected show
Judge Judy!
They got wind of a lawsuit we are filing locally.
My wife is the plaintiff, so she will make the decision.

Is it about squirrels and dogs?
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

No kidding? They just peruse the court dockets and call you out of the blue?
I hope your wife takes them up on the offer.* We've seen lots of BB game show appearances, but this one would be a real hoot!
*Unless, of course, it's a serious matter not fit to become a TV spectacle. But, then, why would they have called?

I have seen every JJ episode known to man (I even have the DVD!) I can give Mrs. Minty surefire tips on how to curry favour with Her Honour.

The two cases for which I've been on a jury would certainly have been fitting for JJ!Here's Fanny! wrote:Silly Marley, that guarantees a call!MarleysGh0st wrote:*Unless, of course, it's a serious matter not fit to become a TV spectacle. But, then, why would they have called?

I have had contact with all the Justice of the Peace Courts in Dallas County. In Texas, the JP Curt serves as our "small claims court." All the TV Judge shows call the courts regularly and ask them if they have any interesting cases that the show might be interested in.MarleysGh0st wrote:No kidding? There is an award fund (I think they call it a 'producer's fund' or something like that. The first JJ of the day just ended here, I should have paid attention to the end credits.) that I believe is $5,000, the jurisdiction of the courts in most of their cases. Although Judge Judy is considered binding arbitration, they stick to the complaint as filed in their original court.PlacentiaSoccerMom wrote:Do you get paid whether you win or lose?
After the judgment is subtracted, the parties split the rest. This is in addition to the free flight, room and board.
I don't know how the property orders fit into the monetary part. I'm always surprised when she does those orders because in Colorado you can't file a complaint in replevin in Small Claims.

I sat with a co-worker in the audience a couple of times for the Ed Koch version of The People's Court. Later I spoke with Harvey Levin (on a different taped case) and appeared on TV. This was around 1998.
Good luck Minty Man; Judge Judy should be interesting.
