New York City Question

My daughter and I are taking sort of a spur-of-the moment trip to NYC today to see Phantom of the Opera. She wants to have "real New York pizza" while we're there. Any suggestions of where to get pizza around Times Square or the theater (44th street) from those of you in NYC?

We'll be leaving about noon so any suggestions before then would be appreciated.

I've eaten at A Slice of New York, 727 8th Ave (between 45th and 46th). Nothing fancy, just New York pizza.

In my opinion, almost all pizza in NY is good!

You didn't say if you were looking to sit down or just stop in and get a slice. John's is very good but I don't think they sell slices. It's right there in the Times square area, I believe on 44th and 8th...or in between 7th and 8th.

I usually just stop at any place that looks and smells good so I think that would work for you too!!! Have fun today!!!

It used to be a church.

They do not serve by the slice.

Avoid all chains - look for independent places. Also they must sell by the slice. Small, long narrow places with little or no seating tend to be the best IMHO. They should have a long counter, a number of ovens right behind the counter, and pies moving fairly quickly from the oven to the display/serving counter - and moving from there out to the customers at a brisk rate. You don't want a slice that is either sitting under a heat lamp for hours or they need to toss back into the oven to warm up.

Of course you might want to try:

Go with Johns. It's close and it's wonderful.
Depending on the time of day, make sure you have some time to wait.......

If it's just a slice you could do Ray's Original....but it's pretty icky compared to John's.

There is also an italian rest. on 45 - 47th street near between 8th and 9th I think that has pretty good pizza too. Much less crowded than John's usually but I can't remember the name of it. Maybe Figaro's? something like that?

Hey, I'm as confident that that will be the air date as I was that I would tape on the 25th of July - and we know how well that worked out.

I am aware that the date may (and possibly likely) change - once it is finalized I will let everyone know - as of now, I know it is tentitve, but I need some fixed date in which to countdown to, and I might as well use the date that they gave me.
