World Quiz Weekend
Well, I learned that there are 144 people in the world who are smarter than I am, and that might be a conservative estimate. I finished #145 out of 662 people in about 30 different countries. Here are the full results:

Last year I was #127 out of 430, so I did either better or worse than last year, depending on what spin you want to put on it. A perfect score would be 210. Last year I scored 100 and this year I scored 102, so at least I'm pretty consistent. At this rate of improvement, I'll be amazing in another 50 years. An old friend from San Francisco, Mark Ryder, scored 118 to finish 77th, and I've often considered him the smartest person I've ever met, so those Europeans who scored 160 or 170+ are clearly in a league of their own.
I'm sorry to hear that the person who was supposed to organize the quiz in New York didn't get his act together. I would have been impressed to see JBillyGirl repeat her excellent 2007 performance.

It was a fun weekend and I got to see many good friends. We easily won the Friday pub quiz at Buffalo Wild Wings in Superior. Thanks to Lori Bailey and her DVR, I got to see an episode of Trivia Trap, circa 1983, featuring Alex Trebek and Phyllis Harris. Phyllis was young and exuberant, playing as one of three "Juniors" against three "Seniors." The line of demarcation was 30 years old to be be considered a senior. Kind of like Logan's Run, I guess. I won't spoil how it turned out.
Denver and Boulder were pleasant and crystal clear during the day and cool at night. The winds were blowing very strong, especially on Sunday. If I lived in Boulder or Broomfield, I'd probably eat at KT's Barbecue about four times a week. Nothing fancy, just my kind of place.
I saw a newspaper rack selling the Louisville Times. I had to buy a copy for old times sake. For several years, I used to deliver the Louisville Times, when that was the name of the daily afternoon newspaper in Kentucky. It's now defunct, like most other afternoon papers.

Thanks for the report. According to my figures (and keep in mind that I teach English, not math!) you finished in the top 22% this year, versus top 30% last. My results are rounded, for the obsessive-compulsives among us!
