Farm workers stay after all?

I was told by tlynn that I was basically defending modern day chattel slavery by suggesting that migrant farm workers are pretty crucial to our economy.

Looks like your dear leader agrees with me.

One important difference. I think these workers probably should be paid better. But it’s a start.

But glad to see that Donald Trump is a relative moral beacon when compared to certain members of this board. He, too, agrees, that these folks should be here. They’re contributing to our economy and they’re in a better, safer place than they would be otherwise.

I think you’re conflating two different policies:

Making farm workers pass a background check and giving them temporary visas. They’re protected by state minimum wage and workplace safety laws. They can get health insurance. They pay Social Security tax even though most of them will never get retirement benefits, which helps keep Social Security solvent.

or:

Turning a blind eye to undocumented workers, allowing their employers to mistreat them without fear of them complaining.

I question one aspect of Trump’s approach. Why make them leave the country to get a visa? That seems wasteful.
