What a weekend! I took the Prius in for service early Friday morning thinking I would have plenty of time to get my sons to the airport by 11:30 (for a 1:30 flight), but the service took 3.5 hours, so I didn't get them there until almost 12:30. They were concerned about the time to get through security (our airport isn't exactly speedy in this area), but they made it with plenty of time to spare. We got a text message from my youngest from Cleveland (the stopover for their transatlantic flight) that they were doing well. Haven't heard since, but don't really expect to. After I took them to the airport I went to see Indiana Jones.
Saturday was an educational experience for me - I helped elwing turn skeins of yarn into balls of yarn so she can knit. I found out that the project she is currently working on - something from Vogue magazine - will require almost 2000 yards of yarn, which, of course, is more than a mile. I was flabbergasted.
Sunday a group of us went to lunch after church and got our meals for practically nothing, thanks to elwing. She had two coupons from the restaurant which were good for $120 off for a group of six. So we took 12 people and ended up paying less than $50 for the whole 12 (including non-alcoholic drinks and dessert).
Yesterday elwing and I went to see Prince Caspian. It's good (although as a fan of the books I have a few quibbles).
And this morning I learned anew why I hate driving other people's cars. I was going to take my son's car and drive to a nearby "park and ride" lot but I couldn't get the thing started. There's some sort of security system on it, which I knew about, but evidently you don't get very long after you deactivate it to start the car before it reactivates, making the car impossible to start. Then I couldn't get the keys out of the ignition, then couldn't find the parking brake...finally I had to get elwing out of bed to come help me. I ended up taking the Prius to the park and ride location; elwing will drive the other car there and take the Prius to work.
