is 48 hours really the time span we use to judge a military campaign?
Let's see, I came home Wednesday night to the news that Russia had invaded Ukraine. By late Friday (here) 48 hours later (and even earlier) the narrative all over the internet is that Putin's plan had failed and yada yade yada.
Maybe that narrative is right-but, really 48 hours (or less)? I am guessing the Russians didn't give their soldiers meth like the Germans did, so maybe they slept a little in there.
Not defending Russia-But Geez, 48 hours????? Don't give yourself false hopes and remember the entire media of the western world is basically putting out Ukrainian propaganda (as they probably should) but keep that in mind as you weigh what is happening.
And apparently, Putin has shared his plans with the whole world because we all seem to know what his plan was. And remember, no plan survives contact with the enemy.

I do take specific reports of enemy casualties and equipment losses with a grain of salt. But the lack of progress the Russians are making is too widespread and reported too widely to be totally fictitious or wishful thinking.
Putin didn't share his plans with the world. That was classified intelligence that Biden deliberately released to take away any semblance of deniability or justification Putin had. He's now reduced to talking about de-Nazification of Ukraine. Our penetration of the Russian military intelligence network rattled Putin. My guess is that we also learned more specifics about Russian plans which would help the Ukrainians mount a more effective defense which would account for heavier than expected Russian losses.
And the US and its allies are going to cut the Russian central bank and several others from the SWIFT system. That's a big move that Biden couldn't do alone, but he's now got the international consensus behind him. Somehting that (a) Trump wouldn't have bothered to try and (b) that Biden won't get any credit for from the Republicans who want to paint him as a weak bungler.
One other thing Spock should appreciate as a military buff. Kyiv is about 250 miles from the Russian border. That means there's a lengthy supply line to resupply the troops around the capital. This is practically an invitation for behind-the-lines irregulars to disrupt them. A few troops with RPGs can disrupt a convoy very quickly.
