NFL Hall of Fame defensive back Herb Adderley dead at 81
The football world is mourning the death of former Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers star Herb Adderley, who died Friday at the age of 81. The Michigan State Spartans legendary running back was the No. 12 overall pick in the 1961 NFL Draft and went on to be inducted to the league’s Hall of Fame in 1980.
Adderley was drafted as a running back, but switched to defensive upon his arrival to the Packers, who already had two future Hall of Famers Jim Taylor and Paul Horning in the backfield. His career took off when he made the switch.
Throughout his 11 year career, Adderley recorded 48 interceptions and scored seven touchdowns. He was a five-time NFL Champion and three-time Super Bowl winner. Adderley made five Pro Bowls and was named a First-Team All-Pro three times and a Second-Team All-Pro four times.
