RIP The Amazing Randi
James "the Amazing" Randi has died at age 92 from "age-related causes". He started his career as a mentalist and escape artist but later became known as a paranormal debunker and was the co-founder of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry.

Re: RIP The Amazing Randi
Some people talk about the movies stars they have seen in person. I saw Randi at the 1989 Committee for the Scientific Investigation of the Paranormal (SICOP) meeting in Washington DC. Penn and Teller were there too.
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
