My favorite song of '08 (so far)

With a third of the year already gone (gulp!)..

"Nine in the Afternoon" by Panic at the Disco. Incredibly catchy and would not sound all that out of place on "Sgt. Pepper". I have heard sound bites from the rest of the album and there is definitely a "Pepper" vibe to much of it. The cd is at the top of my must get list.

"Nine in the Afternoon" actually is a kindred spirit to "Penny Lane", which in fact, along with "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "When I'm 64" was one of the first 3 songs recorded for what would become "Sgt. Pepper". "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields" were issued as a single when the record label squawked about not having any new Beatle product on the market for such a long time (back then they expected something new from their artists every couple of months and the boys were taking what was then a very long time creating what would become their most celebrated work), so only "64" wound up on "Pepper".

I was only marginally impressed by Panic's first cd. I think I am gonna LOVE their second one, judging by the first single and the soundbites I have heard.
