Wedding Blog: BD**2 - 106

The rabbi was very nice. He is a far cry from the rabbi at the temple which I attended in my youth. His office is in a standard office building. Not sure where his congregation meets. Greeted us wearing a Red Sox hoodie. Has a stud earring. Short grey hair. Marvelous deep resonant voice.

Anyway, he looked through his iBook files to find an appropriate ceremony, and read it to us. It's religious without being specific as to the religion. Refers to God, whatever you conceive Him to be (my term, not his, but it was all I could think of). Includes a passage from an Apache wedding blessing. BD liked it, and him. Not sure she had really spoken with him before.

He charges a bit more than I expected, but we can deal with that if necessary. For all that we're not that religious, BD seemed to appreciate the thought of including religion into the ceremony, rather than a more generic JP version. The final decision will wait until GW returns, but unless one of the chaplains comes through, I think we have an officiant.

One caveat: FSIL's reaction toward the rabbi, and his parents' thoughts on the idea of having a rabbi as officiant, the lack of specific Jewish references notwithstanding. He needs to talk with his folks about this before we finalize the deal. Sooner is better. BD knows this, and will get on him about it.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

The rabbi sounds like a real cool guy. I hope things work out.

Pealette's first wedding had a rabbi and a priest. We called them 'rent a rabbi' and 'rent a priest'. The rabbi was a laid back and fun to be with and talk to, the priest, not so much.

Hope it all works out.
