TEN!, Week One, Monday

#1 Post by Pastor Fireball » Mon Jun 12, 2017 2:31 pm

Welcome to the first official day of the new season of "TEN!" You should know the rules by now. You've already gotten your hint to this week's 5-point bonus. It may be sneaking around in the wrong answers below or it may show up later in the week. That's for you to figure out.

Let's get things rolling with a topic near and dear to everybody's heart:

AT THE MOVIES

Ten questions about films and film stars. 1 point for each correct multiple-choice answer and 2 points for a correct bonus answer. Deadline for this set is Wednesday at 4 PM Eastern.

A. "Everyone Says I Love You"
B. "Scoop"
C. "Stardust Memories"
D. "The Front"

2. Everybody knows that Rosebud was a sled in the 1941 classic "Citizen Kane"... but whatever happened to Rosebud at the end of that film?
A. It was discovered in a snowbank

D. It was set adrift on the river

3. What was the name of the beach where Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr had their famous love scene in "From Here to Eternity"?
A. Halona Cove
B. Turtle Bay
C. Kualoa Ranch
D. Sunset Beach

4. Fake blood used in the movies is sometimes called what kind of "Gore"?
A. Westhampton
B. Chelsea
C. Kensington
D. Radcliffe

5. Which of these Doris Day films did not feature her signature song, "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)"?
A. "Pillow Talk"
B. "Please Don't Eat the Daisies"
C. "The Man Who Knew Too Much"
D. "The Glass Bottom Boat"

6. How did Azaria Chamberlain die?
A. Autoerotic asphyxiation
B. Ambushed by cops
C. AIDS
D. Attacked by wild dogs

7. Amy Irving's mother is also a film actress. Name her.
A. Felicia Farr
B. Priscilla Pointer
C. Ann Blyth
D. Marge Redmond

8. In the "Highlander" film series, Christopher Lambert played a member of which Scottish clan?
A. The MacBeths
B. The MacDonegals
C. The MacMillans
D. The MacLeods

9. And while we're on the subject of Scotland, which of these Dame Maggie Smith films took place in Edinburgh?
A. "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie"
B. "A Private Function"
C. "Gosford Park"
D. "Travels with My Aunt"

BONUS. It was one of the most awkward moments in Academy Awards history, but let's see if you still remember it. Name the two Oscar winners who mistakenly gave this year's Best Picture award to "La La Land" rather than the actual winner of "Moonlight". (Must give both correct answers to earn the 2 points.)

This is a protest entry because the Pastor appropriated Vandal's game.
Spoiler
2. Everybody knows that Rosebud was a sled in the 1941 classic "Citizen Kane"... but whatever happened to Rosebud at the end of that film?
Correct answer: C. It was sold at auction
Wrong answer of the week: D. It was set adrift on the river

I believe I'll get a negative score, which is my way of protesting.

If Pastor had apologized earlier, Vandal may have made a clever promo for the game. Even now, Pastor can still avoid becoming a villain in Vandal's next novel.

As an IP lawyer, I can't possibly participate in this game. I agree with Vandal that using the name "TEN" without his permission in an effort to brand the game is at least morally wrong, whether or not it's actionable. I urge potential players to boycott, and I urge those who have played without being aware of this conflict to remove their answers, as ShamelessWeasel did. --Bob

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Is this a real dispute? I don't pay enough attention to know who runs which game. I see questions and, if they look interesting, I answer them. I don't want to get involved in some sort of actual disagreement.

Thanks.

1. All four of these films starred Woody Allen... but which one was neither directed nor written by Woody?
A. "Everyone Says I Love You"
B. "Scoop"
C. "Stardust Memories"
D. "The Front"

Martin Ritt directed it and Walter Bernstein wrote it.

2. Everybody knows that Rosebud was a sled in the 1941 classic "Citizen Kane"... but whatever happened to Rosebud at the end of that film?
A. It was discovered in a snowbank
B. It was thrown into an incinerator
C. It was sold at auction
D. It was set adrift on the river

It was burned along with all of Kane's other possessions that were deemed worthless after Kane died.

3. What was the name of the beach where Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr had their famous love scene in "From Here to Eternity"?
A. Halona Cove
B. Turtle Bay
C. Kualoa Ranch
D. Sunset Beach

As a tribute to that great film, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore had their own love scene here in "50 First Dates".

4. Fake blood used in the movies is sometimes called what kind of "Gore"?
A. Westhampton
B. Chelsea
C. Kensington
D. Radcliffe

There's an actual street in London called "Kensington Gore", and this product was humorously named after it. "Gore" is an old English word for a small triangular piece of land.

5. Which of these Doris Day films did not feature her signature song, "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)"?
A. "Pillow Talk"
B. "Please Don't Eat the Daisies"
C. "The Man Who Knew Too Much"
D. "The Glass Bottom Boat"

She sang "Pillow Talk", "Roly Poly", and "Possess Me" in that film.

6. How did Azaria Chamberlain die?
A. Autoerotic asphyxiation
B. Ambushed by cops
C. AIDS
D. Attacked by wild dogs

She was Meryl Streep's daughter in "A Cry in the Dark", which featured the much parodied line, "The dingo's got my baby!"

7. Amy Irving's mother is also a film actress. Name her.
A. Felicia Farr
B. Priscilla Pointer
C. Ann Blyth
D. Marge Redmond

8. In the "Highlander" film series, Christopher Lambert played a member of which Scottish clan?
A. The MacBeths
B. The MacDonegals
C. The MacMillans
D. The MacLeods

9. And while we're on the subject of Scotland, which of these Dame Maggie Smith films took place in Edinburgh?
A. "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie"
B. "A Private Function"
C. "Gosford Park"
D. "Travels with My Aunt"

Name the two Oscar winners who mistakenly gave this year's Best Picture award to "La La Land" rather than the actual winner of "Moonlight". (Must give both correct answers to earn the 2 points.)

Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway

It was a "Bonnie & Clyde" reunion... which was appropriate because there was obviously a bloodbath backstage after that blooper.
