Re: Happy 100th Birthday Kirk Douglas!
He is a native of my hometown, Amsterdam NY. In my high school senior year, I won the acting award named for him. He was not treated too kindly in his youth, but to his credit, he still made occasional visits to gladhand and accept "honors" and such, like the naming of a small park after him. Mostly his visits were for the purpose of seeing a small handful of old friends. Since they have all passed on and obviously Mr. Douglas is of an age where he's not going to rack up the frequent flyer miles, he hasn't returned in quite some time.
He has treated Amsterdam better than they deserved...to give you an example of how silly my hometown can be, a couple of years ago, they started up an "Amsterdam Hall of Fame". Kirk Douglas was inducted in YEAR TWO. Oh, they had some flimsy excuse why he wasn't a first year inductee, but c'mon. YEAR TWO???

This makes him the fifth and final notable person to see their 100th birthday in 2016. He joins author Beverly Cleary, actress Olivia de Havilland, former FIFA president Joao Havelange, and Hall of Fame basketball coach John Kundla in the 2016 century club. Havelange died in August, three months after his 100th birthday, but the rest of the centenarians are alive and well.
Looking ahead to 2017, fake Austrian princess and erstwhile cop slapper Zsa Zsa Gabor is the first celebrity in line for a 100th birthday. Her birthday is February 6. Despite her health problems over the past decade, she will probably outlive all of us.

Austrian? She was born in Budapest in 1917 and was crowned Miss Hungary in 1936.

It would be interesting to see who beat him out for an inaugural year induction. The Dutch Boy, for one, seeing how he saved the town from flooding and all, but who else?T_Bone0806 wrote:He is a native of my hometown, Amsterdam NY. ..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.

Only the cached page is available and it is a "printable article," so a print dialog box will pop up. Just close it and you can read the article.

That was Kirk's problem; he just didn't have a famous son to give him that extra boost he needed to get in with the Cetnars.and the Cetnars — dad Rick and son Todd, local basketball royalty.

There should be a moratorium on luck-pressing posts like this. And please keep 90+ year old actors out of movie games!Pastor Fireball wrote:Looking ahead to 2017, fake Austrian princess and erstwhile cop slapper Zsa Zsa Gabor is the first celebrity in line for a 100th birthday.
