Logistical idiocy

#1 Post by SpacemanSpiff » Thu Sep 01, 2016 8:25 am

This is where I feel like invoking my inner Ren Hoek -- "EEEEEEEDIOTSSS!"

I ordered a new grill from a big-box hardware store yesterday -- good unit, great ratings, had seen it in a couple of stores; plus, at that price, they would deliver it (assembled) and, more importantly, take away the well-worn old grill. (The city would take it away, but charge $150 for the privilege, considering it the same as a used household appliance. Given how much cooking residue was on it, that might have been a bargain.)

I also ordered a new grill brush (nylon, because it's mostly stainless inside) and a grill cover. The grill cover was coming in via UPS, and the brush, being in stock, would come in with the grill.

So, I got a call last evening (recording) saying that the delivery would be made in the morning between 9:30 and 10:30. I thought that was rather quick, but since they were in stock locally, I wasn't going to argue.

Anyway, the delivery guys called this morning, saying they were on the way to the house and would be there in 15 minutes. I told them that I would be there in 30 minutes, because I had to come from the office.

So, I got in the car and (fortunately) was still in the parking lot, and they called back. "Since you won't be there for 30 minutes, can we just drop it off?"

"Sure, just make sure you take the old unit and please remove the propane tank first."

"What tank? We're just delivering a barbecue grill brush."

"What about the grill itself?"

"We don't have a grill. We just have a brush."

I asked if they could hold it until the grill was scheduled to be delivered. "No, it's on the truck. We have to deliver it."

:x

"Yeah, just throw it in the back yard. Thanks for the call."

As I said, "EEEEEEEDIOTS!"

Today I got a notice from Amazon that my order has shipped and it will be delivered last Thurday, Now that's the future I was hoping for!(actually it was delivered last Friday)
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

...but was that before or after you ordered it?
