The Boney 500: Songs 260-258

Here are today's 3 songs to kick off Week 7...

260. DON'T LET THE SUN CATCH YOU CRYING-GERRY AND THE PACEMAKERS (1964)
ALBUM: Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying

One of the finest ballads to come out of the first wave of the British Invasion.

259. WAIT FOR ME-DARYL HALL & JOHN OATES (1979)
Album: X-Static

This usually gets overlooked when a recap of their hits is done, although it
did hit the Top 20 back in 1979. I happen to think it's one of their nicest
melodies. I think Daryl Hall does a terrific vocal here...not showoffy, with
just the right amount of soulful longing. Also gotta love that "clip-clop horse's hooves" percussion-that's
straight out of Brian Wilson's playbook.

258. YOU AIN'T GOIN' NOWHERE-THE BYRDS (1968)
Album: Sweetheart Of The Rodeo

With the addition of Gram Parsons (who only stuck around for one album), The Byrds
went full-on country and released the seminal Sweetheart of the Rodeo, which kicked
off with this song, yet another great reading of a Bob Dylan tune. Roger McGuinn
shines here, as he usually did when singing Dylan. A benchmark for country-rock.

Love me some percussion.
