The Boney 500: Album #130
Week 5 starts with the next album selection..
130. SOME GIRLS-THE ROLLING STONES (1978)
After a few so-so albums, the Stones came roaring back with this one. I've even come to accept and even like
their foray into the semi-disco of "Miss You", but it's rockers like "Respectable" and "Before They Make Me
Run" that really do it for me. I could still do without "Faraway Eyes", though.

Love this album (including Faraway Eyes). The dueling guitars are so prominent here, especially on Respectable, Some Girls and Lies.
The follow-up, Emotional Rescue, was a major step down.

That was an elevator trip to the bottom floor down. Pretty bad album imo.Vandal wrote:The follow-up, Emotional Rescue, was a major step down.

"Miss you" is a terrific song. I now officially have hopes that my favorite Stones song will be included -- "Start Me up."

My favorite(s) are split between Sympathy for the Devil and Angie.SportsFan68 wrote:"Miss you" is a terrific song. I now officially have hopes that my favorite Stones song will be included -- "Start Me up."
..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.

Re: The Boney 500: Album #130
Angie is forever ruined for me as it was sung in one of my bands by the only person I EVER played with that I wanted to strangle with one of my guitar strings. Won't get into the reasons why, but that's not important to this story. Anyway, I have burned in my memory forever the image of him beginning to sing the song and his girlfriend at the time (nicknamed, you guessed it, Angie) running up to him and throwing her arms around him. It still makes me wish I had hurled some half-digested burrito biproducts into the spaces between the keys on his keyboards. There is, however, a fairly happy ending to this...years later, when I was the music director at a radio station, I got a call from this dude who had just made and sent a little extended play disc, asking if I would give it some airplay. Honestly, if it was any good I probably would have, but it wasn't, so I didn't. Ahhh, sweet revenge! Meanwhile, I am friends with Angie on Facebook, she is a lovely person (always was, even if she did play a role in the unpleasant gastric distress caused by the memory triggered by hearing this song).BackInTex wrote:My favorite(s) are split between Sympathy for the Devil and Angie.SportsFan68 wrote:"Miss you" is a terrific song.
