SSS's newest favorite eating place

#1 Post by BackInTex » Sat Apr 30, 2016 1:52 pm

I finally was near Brooks Place BBQ at lunch time so I walked across the parking lot and got a sandwich and some potato salad. This is a local favorite (and legend). It really is just 5 miles down the road from my house, but not a direction I go a lot.

Its just a trailer set up in the parking lot of an Ace Hardware. Mr. Brooks cooks in a pull-along pit and has a helper running the window. There is a tent and picnic tables set up if you want to dine "in".

While I was waiting for my order, an elderly (probably my age but more gray hair and wrinkles, he was skinny) man walks up wearing a Bernie Sanders t-shirt. I thought "he doesn't really fit in here", but this is Texas and it is BBQ, so all are welcome. Except gun control idiots.

You can read more about this place here.

A 10% discount isn't enough to get my business in any restaurant.

A 50% discount, on the other hand, and I might have to seriously re-evaluate my politics.

Aw, c'mon, give it a try. I hear it's good. Isn't it worth a shot? (Ba-dum-BUM) --Bob

Ha ha. Very funny guys. Shoot, this is a high caliber establishment who's targeted clientele would not appreciate your rapid fire jokes.

I'd just love to be the waiter in this place trying to tell a packing patron that they've run out of free soup for the day.

You're confusing the moral characters of a licensed concealed gun owner and a lawyer.

Interesting occurrence at an event I was at Sat. It was an outdoor event, lots of kids, & a parent had a kid in a stroller with one of those toy rifles with the bright orange plug at the tip pointing out of the stroller. I & another person sought out the management to get them to tell the parent that we knew it was a toy but considering the state of society these days it wasn't a bright idea to have that at the event, but by that time the parent, stroller & toy rifle had disappeared. We knew the management & were pretty sure they would have wanted the thing gone from their event, & having them involved would have avoided a personal-opinion confrontation for us. Maybe the parent had the brights to throw a coat over the rifle (weather forgot its spring up here, despite the 80+ days a few weeks ago). Maybe they just left.

I can't help thinking that a criminal would have no compunction about putting an orange plastic thingie on a real rife just to fool people until it was too late.

I also had to wonder why a kid little enough to be in a stroller (& apparently not a disabled older child & so in need of a stroller) needs a toy rifle.

I've come to the conclusion that the sign is a gimmick. The owner decided that business could use a shot in the arm. (Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week.) --Bob

A gas station owner in Sauk Rapids, Minn. had the same idea. Now the story's on FB, Twitter and YouTube.

Of course, if you have a gun and no permit your gas could be totally free.
