Lyrically Speaking - 2/12/16

#1 Post by Gimme A Squiggly » Fri Feb 12, 2016 7:17 am

I'm sure my devoted slave LB thought he could keep ol' Sam out of that LSWE game he comes up with on my time just because he dumped Mecca Mondays... but you can't keep a good ghost down. To show that our people do sometimes make the difference, last Fall I relaunched Mecca Radio so that our customers and associates no longer had to listen to looping ten hour CD's full of music that I just stole from TBone's iPod. Of course, being the sinister asses my kin are, half the time Mecca Radio is still playing two and a half hour loops the same songs all day and all night. While those loops at least change from day to day now when we don't feel like manning the DJ booth... back in October there was one loop that notoriously played over and over and over for almost three straight weeks. Since LB is more of a slacker than a worker, he took note of all 37 songs in that 135 minutes of aural torture and I've decided to punish you all for pandering to his laziness by presenting that loop to you in today's game. If you were in a Mecca a few months ago, chances are pretty good you heard a selection of this eclectic and thoroughly mixed continual earworm from hell...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. We keep on grinnin' 'til the weekend comes.
Just a pinch between your cheek and gums.

2. Waiting to get to your room
______
Always waiting
Feels like I've been waiting for days
In these ______

3. Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers
and they ve been known to pick a song or two.
Lord, they get me off so much,
they pick me up when I'm feeling blue, now how about you

4. Don't you know my tears will burn the pillow
Set this place on fire 'cause I'm tired of your lies
All I needed was a simple "Hello"
But the traffic was so noisy that you could not hear my cry

5. Saw you there and I thought
Oh my God, look at that face
You look like my next mistake
Love's a game, wanna play?

6. So cover your eyes
I have a surprise
I hope you got a healthy appetite
If you wanna dance
If you want it all
You know that I’m the girl that you should call

7. I read your letters when you're not here
But they don't move me and they don't groove me
Like when I hear your sweet voice
Whispering in my ear

8. Now I love your mama, let's save her some trouble
And your daddy won't mind if we save him a bundle
Girl it just so happens, that ring that you wanted
Well guess what I bought it
It's in my pocket baby, come on

9. _____, lovely lady
Strolling slowly towards the sun
______, ocean lady
Soothing every wave that comes

10. I don't wanna be the one to say goodbye
But I will, I will, I will
I don't wanna sit on the pavement while you fly
But I will, I will, oh yes I will

11. Well, when I know you know baby, everything I say,
meet me in the country for a day.
We'll be happy and we will dance.
Oh, we're gonna dance our blues away.

12. Take me by the hand I will be your man
Cause that's the way you make me feel
Take me by surprise look into my eyes
And show me that your love is real

13. Twist and shout my way out
And wrap yourself around me
Cause I ain't the way you found me
And I'll never be the same

14. One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

15. Yellin' in motion
Keep on doin' the locomotion, yeah
Don't worry, little babe
Shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, yes!

16. You got soccer at 4:30
And ballet class by 5:00
And I call you talkin' flurry
You ask have I lost my mind

17. They come from the cities
And they come from the smaller towns
Beat up cars with guitars and drummers
Goin' crack boom bam

18. I wanna confess that you own me
And we don't rest if we're lonely
There's innocence in the moment
Maybe now's the time to be alive

19. Well, somewhere in this darkness
There's a light that I can't find
Well, maybe it's too far away
Or maybe I'm just blind
Maybe I'm just blind

20. The king is dead
And long live the people who aim above
All the simple stuff never understood
Like right from bad and wrong from good

21. Sometimes, I feel the fear
Of uncertainty stinging clear
And I, I cant help but ask myself
How much I`ll let the fear
Take the wheel and steer

22. Lord make me a rainbow, I'll shine down on my mother
She'll know I'm safe with you when she stands under my colors, oh and
Life ain't always what you think it ought to be, no
Ain't even grey, but she buries her baby

23. And don't you know that
Everybody's got to love somebody sometime
Everybody's got to win a heart
Everybody's got to love somebody sometime
When you do, I hope you never part

24. You ever watched the sun go down
From the bed of a pickup truck
Ever been so into somebody
You're still lying there when it comes back up

25. you could have a steam train
if you'd just lay down your tracks
you could have an aeroplane flying
if you bring your blue sky back

26. My last dime got used up on gasoline,
What I mean, what I mean
Atlanta, GA
By the end of the day
I'm well away, that's what I say

27. Just close your eyes and I'll take you there
This place is warm and without a care
We'll take a swim in the deep blue sea
I go to leave and you reach for me

28. I gotta tell you, you`re lookin` real good
They let us in so I`m feelin` all right
I like to go where sometimes they refuse
Yeah, I remember last Saturday night

29. I still hear your voice when you sleep next to me
I still feel your touch in my dreams
Forgive me my weakness but I don't know why
Without you it's hard to survive

30. Why you mad? Talkin' 'bout you're mad
Could it be that you just lost the best you've ever had?
That’s your bag, yup, that’s too bad
Show is over, you ain’t gotta act

31. I woke up this morning, _____ was not in sight.
I asked her friends about her but all their lips were tight.

32. I think I'll take a moment, celebrate my age
The ending of an era and the turning of a page
Now its time to focus in on where I go from here

33. You slide so good
With bones so fair
You've got the universe
Reclining in your hair

34. When Bernadette comes I get lost on her tide
She's much too sweet and she's always gonna be
When I return to her arms and her eyes

35. Go take this the wrong way
You knew who I was with every step that I ran to you
Only blue or black days
Electing strange perfections in any stranger I choose

36. Another fella told me
He had a sister that looked so fine.
Instead of being my deliverance
She had a strong resemblance
To a cat named Frankenstein

37. Baby, I'm on my way to come and get 'cha
Meet me at the end of your drive
Grab your shades and your string bikini
And your Coppertone forty five

Yeah, like I need a spoiler. I'm definitely doomed on this one.

If I knew who does that stupid song Worth It that they use on the Hershey's commercials and a number of movie trailers and so on, I'd say that...it makes me want to do a double Vincent Van Gogh. Since I do not know the culprit...I mean, "artist", I'll just go with Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin..I don't hate it, I just don't need to ever hear it again. Would've said Free Bird, but Skynyrd was already used in this game.

Lizbit and I recognize that we are not very good at this game. Here are the songs we can identify, from #1 to #37:

0.

We do get tired and annoyed, though. Do you have any idea how many times I've heard the words "stay," "down," and "sit"? It's ridiculous, especially considering that greyhounds don't sit, except as a brief halfway point that uses the force of gravity to assist in reaching a comfy point of stretching out on the floor. For many of us taller sighthounds, it's a minor problem with the curvature of our spines. Lizbit can sit, sit, sit all day. Goody for her. For that, she got to be the valedictorian of her obedience class. I was too busy calculating the price per ounce of various brands of dog food sold at the University of PetSmart bookstore. I bet Bill Gates didn't sit properly when he was in school, either.
Kroxquo Bonus: Name a song with artist that you are tired of hearing over and over again.
Bolero, by Mr. Maurice Ravel and performed by the London Symphony (and many, many other symphony orchestras and high school marching bands.) The first 30 seconds are virtually the same as the last 30 seconds and all the 30-second segments during the nearly 20 unending minutes in between. This is not great music. This is musical cloning. He should have called his composition "Dolly, the Boring Tonal Composite of Notes and Slight Variations in Volume."
Image Bonus: Show me something that is annoyingly looping or repetitive.
.

As I've said in the past, I like cats, and I have nothing against cats with a love for music. Keyboard Cat seems to know no other songs, however. He needs to expand his range and bring a more nuanced performance to his audience.

I'm sorry to be so crabby tonight. I guess I'm being annoying and repetitive. Sigh.

Yours truly and love,
BeBe

After I saw Mr. T's bonus image, which is the best, it cannot be topped, I went back to see if mine even came close, but it had vanished. Even worse, it was so boring and repetitive, I don't even remember what it was. So I am editing my post ONLY to replace my vanished image.

Gimme A Squiggly

Aren't you glad you don't have to listen to Mecca muzak for a living. While I didn't mention it in the intro, this is the entire loop we got stuck with for three weeks, with the songs in the order they played (I guess I arbitrarily chose the starting point...)

1. We keep on grinnin' 'til the weekend comes.
Just a pinch between your cheek and gums.
All Night Long - Joe Walsh/Eagles (Best as I can tell, this song's attributed to both Walsh and the band, so it's Phil Collins Rule exempt...)

2. Waiting to get to your room
______
Always waiting
Feels like I've been waiting for days
In these ______
Hallways - Islands (Not a bad little known indie song. It would have been right at home on the CD's I wish we had back...)

3. Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers
and they ve been known to pick a song or two.
Lord, they get me off so much,
they pick me up when I'm feeling blue, now how about you
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd

4. Don't you know my tears will burn the pillow
Set this place on fire 'cause I'm tired of your lies
All I needed was a simple "Hello"
But the traffic was so noisy that you could not hear my cry
All Cried Out - Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam w/Full Force (This is just great 80's music at its sappiest...)

5. Saw you there and I thought
Oh my God, look at that face
You look like my next mistake
Love's a game, wanna play?
Blank Space - Taylor Swift (So Mecca is now pimping the Grammys and playing one of the five Record of the Year nominees every half hour. And apparently, despite this making my list of worst songs of 2014, it's up for the nod this year. Can we get the damn awards over with already?)

6. So cover your eyes
I have a surprise
I hope you got a healthy appetite
If you wanna dance
If you want it all
You know that I’m the girl that you should call
Birthday - Katy Perry (Throw out Firework and Teenage Dream, and I actually like almost everything else she's done that I've heard before....)

7. I read your letters when you're not here
But they don't move me and they don't groove me
Like when I hear your sweet voice
Whispering in my ear
Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (The Michael McDonald version got included in a loop once, so someone at the HO likes this song...)

8. Now I love your mama, let's save her some trouble
And your daddy won't mind if we save him a bundle
Girl it just so happens, that ring that you wanted
Well guess what I bought it
It's in my pocket baby, come on
Why Wait - Rascal Flatts (There was way too much country in this loop.... as in, this was far from the only country song.)

9. _____, lovely lady
Strolling slowly towards the sun
______, ocean lady
Soothing every wave that comes
Green Eyed Lady - Sugarloaf (I found out during this perpetual loop that my manager can't stand this song...)

10. I don't wanna be the one to say goodbye
But I will, I will, I will
I don't wanna sit on the pavement while you fly
But I will, I will, oh yes I will
Maybe - Ingrid Michaelson (I didn't like this song at all, and was disappointed when I looked it up and Ingrid popped up since she's pleasantly surprised me so many other times with songs I only hear at work...)

11. Well, when I know you know baby, everything I say,
meet me in the country for a day.
We'll be happy and we will dance.
Oh, we're gonna dance our blues away.
Listen to the Music - Doobie Brothers

12. Take me by the hand I will be your man
Cause that's the way you make me feel
Take me by surprise look into my eyes
And show me that your love is real
I Like it - Dino (There are two people in the world who like this song. Me, and the Mecca Radio DJ. They've played it a lot lately, maybe more than any other song to appear in the infamous loop...)

13. Twist and shout my way out
And wrap yourself around me
Cause I ain't the way you found me
And I'll never be the same
You Make My Dreams - Hall & Oates

14. One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
Viva la Vida - Coldplay

15. Yellin' in motion
Keep on doin' the locomotion, yeah
Don't worry, little babe
Shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, yes!
Keep On Dancin' - The Gentrys

16. You got soccer at 4:30
And ballet class by 5:00
And I call you talkin' flurry
You ask have I lost my mind
Another Side of You - Joe Nichols (The second worst country song on the loop...)

17. They come from the cities
And they come from the smaller towns
Beat up cars with guitars and drummers
Goin' crack boom bam
ROCK in the USA - John Cougar Mellencamp

18. I wanna confess that you own me
And we don't rest if we're lonely
There's innocence in the moment
Maybe now's the time to be alive
Molecules - Atlas Genius

19. Well, somewhere in this darkness
There's a light that I can't find
Well, maybe it's too far away
Or maybe I'm just blind
Maybe I'm just blind
When I'm Gone - Three Doors Down

20. The king is dead
And long live the people who aim above
All the simple stuff never understood
Like right from bad and wrong from good
Never Stop - Echo and the Bunnymen (We have an 80's alt fan in Bentonville... there's a lot of obscure 80's that gets played)

21. Sometimes, I feel the fear
Of uncertainty stinging clear
And I, I cant help but ask myself
How much I`ll let the fear
Take the wheel and steer
Drive - Incubus

22. Lord make me a rainbow, I'll shine down on my mother
She'll know I'm safe with you when she stands under my colors, oh and
Life ain't always what you think it ought to be, no
Ain't even grey, but she buries her baby
If I Die Young - The Band Perry

23. And don't you know that
Everybody's got to love somebody sometime
Everybody's got to win a heart
Everybody's got to love somebody sometime
When you do, I hope you never part
Listen People - Herman's Hermits

24. You ever watched the sun go down
From the bed of a pickup truck
Ever been so into somebody
You're still lying there when it comes back up
How Country Feels - Randy Houser

25. you could have a steam train
if you'd just lay down your tracks
you could have an aeroplane flying
if you bring your blue sky back
Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel

26. My last dime got used up on gasoline,
What I mean, what I mean
Atlanta, GA
By the end of the day
I'm well away, that's what I say
Gotta Get Away - The Black Keys

27. Just close your eyes and I'll take you there
This place is warm and without a care
We'll take a swim in the deep blue sea
I go to leave and you reach for me
Someday - Sugar Ray

28. I gotta tell you, you`re lookin` real good
They let us in so I`m feelin` all right
I like to go where sometimes they refuse
Yeah, I remember last Saturday night
Cool Places - Sparks w/Jane Wiedlin (I had never heard of this song before. A neat lost 80's hit that had eluded me all these years...)

29. I still hear your voice when you sleep next to me
I still feel your touch in my dreams
Forgive me my weakness but I don't know why
Without you it's hard to survive
Everytime We Touch - Cascada

30. Why you mad? Talkin' 'bout you're mad
Could it be that you just lost the best you've ever had?
That’s your bag, yup, that’s too bad
Show is over, you ain’t gotta act
Infinity - Mariah Carey

31. I woke up this morning, _____ was not in sight.
I asked her friends about her but all their lips were tight.
Lucille - Little Richard

32. I think I'll take a moment, celebrate my age
The ending of an era and the turning of a page
Now its time to focus in on where I go from here
My Next Thirty Years - Tim McGraw (This song needs to be killed with fire. Between this one and "Live Like You're Dying" from one of the old CD's, I've really come to dislike Tim McGraw...)

33. You slide so good
With bones so fair
You've got the universe
Reclining in your hair
Jeepster - T. Rex (Another really obscure oldie pulled out of the archive that I'd never heard before, and was shocked to find out how old it was.)

34. When Bernadette comes I get lost on her tide
She's much too sweet and she's always gonna be
When I return to her arms and her eyes
OK, It's Alright With Me - Eric Hutchinson

35. Go take this the wrong way
You knew who I was with every step that I ran to you
Only blue or black days
Electing strange perfections in any stranger I choose
Someone New - Hozier

36. Another fella told me
He had a sister that looked so fine.
Instead of being my deliverance
She had a strong resemblance
To a cat named Frankenstein
Another Saturday Night - Cat Stevens (Sam Cooke was OK, of course, but Yousef's version was in the loop...)

37. Baby, I'm on my way to come and get 'cha
Meet me at the end of your drive
Grab your shades and your string bikini
And your Coppertone forty five
All Over Me - Josh Turner

Image Bonus: Show me something that is annoyingly looping or repetitive. - Lots of seeing eye singles in this one, so I gotta go with the inside the park homer... Vandal for Lionel Waldo Ritchie. Another 5 point IBB for him!

JJC Points:

ear gets a JJC point for annoying lawyers...

smiler gets 2 JJC points for the Dean Martin song that threw me off while I was trying to look up the Herman's Hermits song, and for missing Bunny and the Echomen...

vandal gets 3 JJC points for finding Lionel...

frank gets a JJC point for slamming Sarah...

Krox gets 2 JJC points for hating Bonnie Tyler, and confirming that smiler wasn't just making up his Krox (I guess it's because I'm always asleep on Sundays...)

I gave Sprots a JJC point for whatever her original image was, but apparently forgetting that it's easy for me to check on what they are from the link, she went and changed it. Referee Phil Luckett would dock her all of her JJC points for that, but I'm a nice guy...

BeBe gets a supermax for knowing annoying when she sees it...

melly gets a JJC point for King Asswipe...

Hottie gets a JJC point for Kroxing Adele, who should never be played on the radio again...

Esto gets a JJC point for not knowing what the game was about...

BiT gets a JJC point for the most annoying country pop crossover song of the decade...
