Sometimes even the brightest of kids can do stupid things. This definitely qualifies.

Short version -- a group of eight teens, including twin brothers who died in the incident, entered a closed bobsled/luge course at the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. The twins had worked there the summer before. They went in there and took some personal sleds and went down the luge course.
Except they forgot (or didn't realize) that there was a gate in the course partway-down, used to separate the two starts when they merged into the main track (the bobsled and luge have different starting areas; the track combines about a fourth of the way down). And they went full speed into the gate. The twins were killed, likely instantly, with the other six teens having a variety of injuries.
From all reports, the twins were good kids, overachievers, did a lot of charity work, etc. But sometimes you can be smart and do stupid things.
Sad story, just the same.

Re: Sad story out of Calgary
I imagine that most of us here did stupid stuff akin to that, but lucked out, I guess.
Two of my best friends run a lift business-working with elevators/chair lifts-etc-They see some pretty sad stories with paralyzed kids etc.
The recent case-the 5 YO was sledding and went down backwards and hit a snowman that had turned to ice and that was it.
My friend said the kid was so excited about the stuff that they were installing.
That friend and I have both come within a whisper of being paralyzed-he in a college football injury and me in a bad fall-

I shudder when I recall some of the things I did when younger.Spock wrote:I imagine that most of us here did stupid stuff akin to that, but lucked out, I guess.
..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.
