woman "charged but not arrested"

for leaving her infant in the car for about 10 minutes in 20 degree weather in Wrentham, MA. At a shopping mall.

I guess it was warmer today in Wrentham than neighboring towns, unless this was yesterday.

Anyway, officer interviewed said "she was Asian, she didn't speak English (oh yeah? she knew enough to shop) & the child *was* dressed in a snowsuit (but the child wailing was what alerted a passer-by)" & that "we discussed cultural differences before deciding to charge her" but that "it should be instinctual, in any culture, not to leave your child outside in extreme weather".


I throw up my hands here. I don't *care* about cultural differences. Child endangerment is child endangernent. G-d forbid, it could easily have been child murder. No-one should get a buy on "they didn't understand our ways" on this.
