This is just wrong on so many levels. Why on earth would a show aimed at weight loss cast such a controversial reality star??!! The only conceivably worse person they could cast on the show is Russell Hantz (don't get any ideas from this, NBC )!

The 17th Season of the show premieres on January 4th and along with Hatch, The Voice semi-finalist Erin Willett will also be a contestant. Bob Harper will replace Alison Sweeney as the new host, and Dolvett Quince and Jennifer Widerstrom return as trainers. Watch at your own discretion.

It's really simple: Casting for reality shows is a whorish process. People will watch just because it's Richard Hatch - because they hate him, because they love him, because they want to see if he wins and skips out on paying his taxes again. Whatever. They will watch. That's all that matters.
