Just read a book-"Fighting Patton-Patton through the eyes of his enemies."
Main theme-The Germans didn't see Patton as all that. His big mobile drives-Sicily, France and Germany-were all into a collapsing enemy. He never conducted a mobile defense against a strong enemy-as the Germans did in spades in Russia.
Another theme is that he wasn't as aggressive as we think-Time and again-he didn't take advantage of situations that he should have-and the enemy was thankful for that.
Final assessment-In the German Army he probably would have been an above average Panzer general
Patton-He was your best.

Actually, he went through the records actually from during the war(as much as possible)-and found a lot of "I can't believe he didn't hit us harder here" After the war the Germans tended to talk him up more-IE "Patton, he was your best."silverscreenselect wrote:Those grapes were probably sour anyway.Spock wrote:

Did they account for the Sherman being a terrible tank.
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
