I understand HIPAA rules, but still ...

#1 Post by gsabc » Fri Apr 04, 2008 6:57 am

Had my physical Tuesday, with blood tests and all. Yesterday, there's a message on my answering machine from the doctor, wanting me to call her about the results. Nothing else in the message. I know they can't leave information on machines because of the HIPAA regulations, but it does nothing for my mental state. Good news? Bad news? Status quo? Retest needed because of a screwup? At least give a hint.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

My doctor has a form that I signed that allows for them to leave an answering machine message or send a fax.

Same here as PSM mentioned...I signed a form allowing them to give info to me or NN over the phone. But both my internist and midwives do the same thing for routine tests: if it's normal, they don't call at all or they just send a little postcard saying everything is kosher.
