RIP Bess Myerson

NY Times wrote:Bess Myerson, a New York favorite daughter who basked in the public eye for decades — as Miss America 1945, as a television personality, as a force in public affairs and finally, under a harsher light, as a player in a shattering municipal scandal — died on Dec. 14 at her home in Santa Monica, Calif., her death occurring in the relative obscurity in which she had lived her last years. She was 90.

Her death, which had not been publicly announced, was confirmed on Monday by public records.

(Beating Zach to the punch) Bess frequently appeared on game shows like I've Got a Secret, which I remember fondly.

Her obituary says she worked for eight years on the game show "The Big Payoff" which I had never heard of. That was on from 1951-9 so I'm surprised. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Big_Payoff

Of the most remembered classic I've Got a Secret panel(Bill Cullen, Henry Morgan, Bess Myerson, and Betsy Palmer), only Betsy is still alive.

I once gave Betsy Palmer a ride to the Burbank airport after the Game Show Congress. She told me to give her a call if I'm ever in New York. Said she was in the phone book. I never followed up on that.
