Massive tornado outbreak predicted for TX, OK, and AR

Forecasters Are Already Predicting a Massive Tornado Outbreak This Weekend

We have already had three on the ground down here (Tupelo, Louisville, Canton) with more headed this way. Most of the previous stuff was a little north of us but it looks like our turn is coming in the next couple of hours. Not much hard news but a bunch of our ambulances left here (Meridian) on the way to Louisville about an hour ago. The word is that the Louisville tornado hit the hospital up there.

Our most prominent local TV station has had continuous weather coverage since about 5 PM. They sort of overdo things sometimes but they give a true moment by moment report with very detailed (road by road) descriptions of how many minutes until the bad part hits a specific spot. Tonight, the weather service confirmed several funnel clouds in our immediate area. At one time, the very worst thing on radar was right over us(BTW-they had long since moved us from a tornado watch to a tornado warning) and I switched over to the Weather Channel just to see what they were saying. Well, it certainly doesn't make you feel any better when the first thing you see on WC is a shot of your county and Jim Cantore is talking about your specific part of the county. For the first time ever, we built us a nest in the innermost hallway to ride things out in. Thankfully, it looks like the worst has passed and everyone close to us seems safe. The TV did break in one time to show a store in town that had it's canopy collapse and trap a couple of carloads of people under it. That store is only about 300-400 yards from my school.

No. Before this weekend's storms, the Weather Channel was talking about how unusual it was that the country had gone so far into April without any tornado fatalities. Unfortunately, that streak of luck didn't last.

Talked to my kids at 4 am their time and all were in the basement. Hoping the worst is over.


Natalie's little 14 year old yorkie died 2 days ago

She is devastated but will survive. Hate it hPoened while I am out of the country.

In the South, it's ALWAYS tornado season....

Didn't someone here mention the recent 40th anniversary of "The Night of the Tornadoes"?

And LB is right -- with the proximity to the Gulf, it's easy to get the "right mix" of warm, moist air and cold, dry arctic air at unusual times. I remember the first Christmas after we moved from Alabama, we went back at Christmas to visit relatives, only to be greeted by the threat of tornadoes there.

Thanks for the positive vibes y'all. Thankfully our little area got off light last night. We had some expected things (downed trees and such) but nothing like the areas that really got hit hard like Louisville and Tupelo. We won't let our guard down just yet though. We are actually under a tornado watch this very minute which lasts until 9 central. I am not too concerned with this watch. Our weather looks about 10% as threatening as that we had last night.

Glad it's better. We had high winds causing a lot of damage east of here, but there were no serious injuries or deaths (at least before I left to play trivia).
