Happy Earth Day! I was a senior in high school in 1970, the year of the first Earth Day. I was in an honors English class called "Great Books", and so we read some - The Scarlet Letter, Moby Dick, excerpts from The Divine Comedy, several of Shakespeare's plays, and other such material. We were the "hippies" in our conservative Oklahoma high school and published our own "underground newspaper" known as Hard Rain. Because our regular school newspaper didn't mention it, we put out a special edition talking about Earth Day.
