RIP Jerry Coleman

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Tue Jan 07, 2014 8:32 am

Longtime voice of the San Diego Padres and before that a player for the New York Yankees. He was a utility infielder who was named MVP in the Yankees' 1950 World Series triumph over Philadelphia before being recalled to serve as a fighter pilot in Korea (having served in World War II previously). After serving as Padres' broadcaster for a number of years, he managed the team for one last-place season in 1980 before returning to the broadcast booth. He was named as a broadcaster to the Hall of Fame.

Age 89.
