Return of the world's worst children
My brother called this morning. We agree with her current health care providers that our mother should stay permanently in a nursing home, rather than return to her assisted living center.
The sad thing is that she undoubtedly is capable of assisting with her own needs. She just doesn't want to, and won't. That does not mean she will be pleased with this arrangement.

I'm beginning to believe that SC's mom and mine are sisters. That's the bad news.
The good news is that the two of us can be cousins!
Yippee!!

I'm not saying you're right, mind you, but it's theoretically possible that she might have been a theoretical inspiration for whatever theoretical theories that were the subject of actual exposition.christie1111 wrote:

Something perfect for this thread:
The Law of the Garbage Truck
How often do you let other people change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, aggravated customer, curt boss, an insensitive co-worker or employee ruin your day? Unless you're the Terminator, for an instant you're probably set back on your heels. However, the mark of a successful person is how quickly she/he can get back her/his focus on what's important.
I learned this lesson in a taxi cab. Here's what happened:
I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly.
So I asked, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!" This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, "The Law of the Garbage Truck."
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets.

This is so true. Plus it aggravates the dickens out of the jerks when you're nice to them. Disables their continuance of jerkiness. I love that.PlacentiaSoccerMom wrote:Something perfect for this thread:

I LOVE this story, and will be sharing it with my students next week. Trying to teach the concept of Responsibility for Your Own Reactions is tough. The visualization in this tale is great.

My heart went all warm and gushy that you actually want to and try to teach that.hermillion wrote:I LOVE this story, and will be sharing it with my students next week. Trying to teach the concept of Responsibility for Your Own Reactions is tough. The visualization in this tale is great.
I call it a way of being in life, not a concept.
