Second week in a row I thought the guys outdid the gals overall.

1-CARLY-"I Drove All Night". I love this song (sorry, Simon). Of course, I prefer the Cyndi Lauper version, which Simon has probably never heard, to Celine's. Carly aired out her powerful voice and nailed it. Excellent job on those sustained notes. A
2-AMANDA-"I Hate Myself For Loving You". More than any other contestant this year, song choice is going to be crucial for her. She chose VERY wisely this week. RIGHT up her alley, and she didn't disappoint. Her voice was perfect for this. Like David Cook last night, she may have saved her bacon with this. A-
3-ASIA'H-"I Wanna Dance With Somebody". A shaky start gave way to a fun, bouncy take on this tune. B
4-RAMIELE-"Against All Odds". This song has been sung too many times. Time for retirement from this show. That being said, she gave it a solid, if unspectacular, reading. B
5-BROOKE-"Love is a Battlefield". Hmmm. Interesting in that I have given Brooke the same mark all three weeks. I really didn't care for the presentation. I mean, she sang it ok enough, but to me it just kinda sat there and didn't go much of anywhere. Not terrible by any means, just blah. B-
6-SYESHA-"Saving All My Love For You". Oversang it. Of course, Whitney usually oversings on her records, too. But Whitney stays in key when she does it. Syesha has chops, but doesn't always make the best use of them. I wasn't as impressed with her as the judges and Syesha herself seem to be. B-
7-KADY-"Who Wants to Live Forever". I thought she might surprise me at the start of this one, as she didn't sound half bad for a half-minute. But then the torture began. This is a Queen song, but she sounded more like Freddy Kruger than Freddie Mercury. D+
8-KRISTY LEE-"Faithfully". I have no faith that we'll see her next week. Her voice was flatter than Wile E. Coyote after an encounter with a steamroller. D

Who should go: Kady and Kristy Lee.
Who will go: I will cross my fingers and hope that my SHOULD go's WILL.

My standings after three weeks:

Carly-28 pts.
Ramiele-26 pts.
Asia'h and Syesha-22 pts.
Brooke-21 pts.
Amanda-18 pts.
Kristy Lee-12 pts.
Kady-9 pts.

I am glad for the recaps - roomie only got the final 15 minutes of the show. I'll see Brooke and the montage, and maybe Syesha is last? The only one it sounds like I regret missing is Amanda.

I love that Queen song but you must be PERFECT. No way any of these kids can handle it. I am thinking back on past contestants, and of the guys, two from Season 5 are my only potential candidates: the hated/adored Constantine, and Anwar Robinson, who had a very nice upper register. OK maybe Chris Sligh also. But there has to be a sadness from understanding that if you live forever without love, it is worse than dying on time. And that comes with age or heartbreak, which I wouldn't wish on anyone.

The women who could handle it: maybe Tamyra Gray, who can tell any kind of story, Kimberley Locke, my second-favorite singer of seven seasons behind Melinda Doolittle, and on the right day, Gina Glocksen.

I like Roy Orbisons' "I Drove All Night" the best.

Glad I missed some of the others. Overdone.

If I got to do an 80s song, I would pick Ronnie Milsap "I Wouldn't Have Missed it for the World" but would have to tweak the lyric to not address it to a female, which would appall some folks.

Alternates:
Matthew Wilder, "Break My Stride"
George Harrison, "Got My Mind Set on You" because it is fun not because the lyric is much

and then just for the jam:
Fine Young Cannibals, "Good Thing"

Yikes. Even on the quickies at the end, Kady and Kristy Lee were awful.

I did like Brooke's approach. She has the potential to grow the most, along with Jason Castro.

The Whitney song was too big for Sayesha, who I like somewhat, but who overshoots her abilities pretty often. But that smile will carry her far.

I liked both Carly and Amanda on the quickies.

This should be the easiest vote-off yet. Kady, Kristy Lee, Luke, and any one of about three guys, none of whom is winning or going on tour. Chikezi is safe for one more week being the only minority male ("minority" meaning skin color not sexuality).

1-CARLY-"I Drove All Night".

Serviceable. Good vocals, not so great song choice, ugly pants. Her mom is gorgeous, so I'm guessing her dad not so much...

2-AMANDA-"I Hate Myself For Loving You".

She really needed this. It was just right for her. She does not seem to be enjoying this whole thing so much. I like how she could burn down a pool.

3-ASIA'H-"I Wanna Dance With Somebody".

This song was just right for her. A frothy confection. She may have problems with going first and singing Whitney, since both are like the kiss of death.

4-RAMIELE-"Against All Odds".

Can we retire this chestnut, please? At least Ramiele can sing.

5-BROOKE-"Love is a Battlefield".

She sang it well, but I was carrying on a conversation with Rain Man throughout most of it, so it wasn't particularly compelling. Usually I tell him to wait for a commercial.

6-SYESHA-"Saving All My Love For You".

Another overused song. I just can't connect to this girl. Competent and overpolished but not really as good as she probably thinks she is.

7-KADY-"Who Wants to Live Forever".

Who wants to stay in this competition forever? Not you. Simon says liven it up and you pick THAT?!? She probably WANTED to go home last week....

8-KRISTY LEE-"Faithfully".

Wow. I love that song. She tortured it and wore weird makeup that called attention to her weird eye thing she has going on.

Now, MY 80's were Duran Duran, Elvis Costello, The Police, REM, Joe Jackson, U2, Madonna, Taylor Dayne (who I know some people hate, but she's iconic), Tina Turner, Bruuuuce, even Stray Cats. This version of the 80's as served up by AI was just Fernworthy. I think artists should release their songs to AI, because after listening to the contestants butcher Gloria Estefan a few years ago, Gloria looked great by comparison.

Syesha, Asia'h, Kristy, and Kady should start their pre-packing preparation now. The blondes stunk and the others sang Whitney.

I really like Amanda and I knew that at some point she would be doing a Joan Jett song. Her voice just calls out for doing Janis Joplin, Joan Jett and Pat Benatar songs (and probably a few others I'm forgetting now).

As much as I like Amanda and like that song (perfect for her voice), I felt that her performance fell flat. I think she'll certainly last until next week as she certainly is the most unique contestant amongst the women this year.

I think that she will last as well. Emma really likes her and votes for her.

I agree that her perfomance was flat. The sad thing though is that she was probably the best performer of the evening.

When the women and men start performing together, the women are going to start dropping like flies.

Two things I wish for.

#1 - Paula to keep her comments to less than 5 minutes or, better yet, to be quiet altogether. If I hear "that's who you really are" or "you look really nice tonight" I'm gonna puke.

#2 - Bar all singers from singing a Whitney Houston song.

I wish that Paula could go on the show without being drunk or stoned. Half the time I don't understand what she is saying.
