I guess 2 out of 3 ain't bad

#1 Post by TheCalvinator24 » Wed Dec 21, 2011 10:41 pm

I set running goals for myself this fall.

I wanted to finish my half-marathon under 2:25, my marathon under 5 hours, and a 5K under 30 minutes.

I did the first, came up a tad short on the second, and tonight I accomplished the third.

Dallas Jingle Bell Run. Personal Best time of 28:45. That was 5:44 below my previous best 5K time.

So, I cut about a minute/mile off my 1/2 time, just over a min/mi of my full marathon, and 1:51/mi off my 5K.

Next time, I have a goal that you express your accomplishment with something more positive than "ain't bad".

Second the "ain't bad" motion.

You've done some things that 99% can't or won't do.

You ARE the 1%.

And I congratulate you.

Maybe I could cry all night
But that ain't getting me nowhere
I studied everything I possibly could
I thought that I knew everything

I play the phone game every night
And that'll never change as long as it's here
The adrenaline is piling up inside
As Fred goes through his normal spiel

I wrote them down and I worked them out
I tried to show them just how much I know
I got the first two right without a doubt
But then my fingers responded wrong
And I pushed button five instead of four
Now all I can do is rue the chance I blew

I knew one (I knew one)
I knew two (I knew two)
But on question three my fingers went askew
Now I'm so sad (I'm so sad)
Cause two out of three's too bad
Now I'm so mad (I'm so mad)
Cause two out of three's too bad

I knew that Spokane was north of Pebble Beach
I knew "Lorenzo's Oil" came after "Wall Street"
And then I heard her say most recent, but my mind hit the rocks
Because I put the Coupe de Ville as being introduced before the Cracker Jack box

I can't win (I can't win), I can't ever get that last question right
No matter how I try
I've never been able, to get a callback
Cause I just never get the shot

There's only one round one that I ever passed
And that was so many months ago
And I was so excited, but they just broke my heart
They never called me back, ooh I know

Well I remember when I called in on a stormy night
And they tossed me a bunch of softball Q's
And though I pleaded and I begged the power not to go out
It went dark before I chose my tape date
And it keeps on killing me
It keeps on killing me
It just keeps on killing me

I knew one (I knew one)
I knew two (I knew two)
But on question three I didn't have a clue
Now I'm so sad (I'm so sad)
Cause two out of three's too bad

I knew one (I knew one)
I knew two (I knew two)
But on question three I got Marble Mouth's doodoo
Now I'm so sad (I'm so sad)
Cause two out of three's too bad

Maybe I could cry all night
But that ain't getting me nowhere

Congratulations! I can't run --- even if someone is chasing me --- but I think I've walked a few marathons at WDW in the last three days. We're all sick with what might be the flu today. :(

Well done Marty.

I second Bob's comment "I can't run." Though I'm relearning, slowly. The first time I challenged my son to a race to the car a few weeks ago I almost ate it. Seems my mind know what to do, but my legs were behind the sequence of upper body balance.

I don't know if I'll train to run anything more than a 5K, but that would be quite an accomplishment for me given where I'm starting.
