FIL Update!

#1 Post by fuzzywuzzy » Mon Feb 11, 2008 9:17 am

Happy Monday everybody!

I wanted to thank you all for the prayers & positive vibeage…it definitely works!

1.FIL’s surgeon came to see him, and explained what is going on with his healing process.
2.He is now out of intensive care, and doing better.
3.fwh, has spoken with all the doctors to be sure that he is getting all his prescribed medication.
4.Working on getting the Medical Power of Attorney.

Bad news… MIL & SIL had big knock down drag out fight. MIL wants FIL (once released) to go back to the rehab that he was in. His doctors will be able to visit (and will), and he will be closer to family. Therefore, they are paying $100/day to hold his room in the rehab facility. Hmmm so far = $400.

SIL wants Dad to go to the place he went to when he had stenosis surgery 4 years ago. It’s in Fullerton, and his doctors will NOT visit him there. Reason = cheaper! Ah, if it means getting better care vs. saving money…ah, I think it’s a no brainer when you are an 85 year old person trying NOT to be a statistic!

FWH wants Dad in the most recent rehab and agrees with Mom. There is too much miscommunication from SIL to MIL, and underlying anger. SIL called and left a message at 10:30 am Saturday for MIL. FWH & MIL left at 10:00 am, stopped by briefly, then didn’t get home til later in the evening. Therefore, not receiving SIL’s message.

SIL thought they were blowing her off. She still doesn’t get it! They were doing stuff for FIL & MIL. She should be thrilled that MIL was out-of the-house and actively “doing” stuff to move forward. My MIL has a bad habit of NOT being on time, and NOT leaving the house til 4:00 pm in the afternoon…by then the day is gone! This is habitual, and believe me, I have come up with creative ways around this!

Great news, fuzzy. Patience and perseverence are called for now, it sounds like. Best of luck!

Fuzzy,

Keep on. Things sound like they are getting better. I hope it continues.

Happy Monday to you, too!

You gotta love this...fwh just called me from CA, he saw a bumper sticker that says" Your proctologist just called, and he said that he found your head!" Thank goodness for humor!

Tuesday update on FIL...doing better. He will be evaluated on his current physical ability to begin physical therapy. Yesterday the PT said that he was not ready for full on physical therapy. His ability would also decide which facility he would go to. As you know this is a point of contention for the family.

Well...the truth came out last night! FWH was visiting his Dad, when his Sis & niece came and wanted to have a discussion with him.

We knew that this was coming and therefore, I adviced fwh to deal with them as he would a colleague. Do not bring any emotions or feelings to the conversation, and keep it focused on my in-laws.

Fwh, stuck to the plan...however, my SIL, began to call him names. She was totally ticked off!

Then my niece finally blabbed what her issue with her Grandparents was. "Its too much for her to help them out. I have a family, and I do not have the time." Therefore, she wants them to sell their home, and move into an assisted living place. Ah, my FIL would have still broken his hip. Ah, I guess that they are too much of a "bother".

Hmmm, I guess that she forgot about all the things that her Grandparents did for her...like raise her, take care of her, buy her a brand new car, etc...

Maybe, I was raised wrong... but, family, is everything to me! I would give anything to have my Grandparents alive...to be able to share my life with them, and do whatever I could for them.

Call me crazy... :P

Forgive me but that niece sounds like a selfish brat. That crap about her not having time is just that. Crap. Most of us just don't want to make time. We are so caught up in doing what pleases us that we forget that others might need us. Hopefully, neice will realize she can help before it is too late.

You were not raised wrong. Family is important. Sometimes it's all we have. I would give anything to have my grandparents back. When Madeleine was about 15 months old I helped care for my grandmother. She was at home/hospice with terminal cancer. I was limited somewhat having a toddler but I knew that if I dint help I was going to regret it. Besides, my grandmother was like a second mother to me. She was a huge part of my life growing up. I can't imagine just blowing her off when she needed me most.

fwh is a good son.

He is trying! Fwh, told his sis & niece, that the ultimate decision needs to made by their Mom & Dad, and they need to respect their choices. Fwh even told his Mom, that if she & Dad disagree, that its Dad's decision to make...therefore, his choice should be respected. He is the patient and has full use of his mental faculties.

Remember niece is a person who has two sons in school. One is 9 and one is 6. I wonder if she is teaching them how to respect their elders and take care of their extended family?

She is teaching her sons to abandon her on an ice floe as soon as possible after her hair turns gray (or before, if she encounters major health problems.)
