Maybe not appetizing, but much easier to fit in the fridge. (And less likely to roll out when you open the door! Or maybe that's only happened to me.)

Whether it's appetizing doesn't enter into my consideration; I presume it tastes exactly like any other watermelon. The square shape does make it very cool, though! 8)

I saw these many years ago in Time magazine. I think it was in the article that said a watermelon ran about $76 in Japan.

I like the stackability, and I bet it won't roll off the cutting board while you are trying to make that first slice....

Nope. :D

I think it looks very interesting. Odd but interesting.

That's what you get when you grow watermelons in a box!

Dr. Arai, my former chief, has had them on his frequent trips to Japan. Never brought one back to share though!

I have to say I much prefer cantaloupe or honeydew to watermelon. They just taste better plus the seeds are all in one place :)

The most watermelon I ever bought was last spring when Karen first learned she was pregnant. She got a craving for it & practically lived on it for several weeks (till she literally got sick of it.) But for a while we were buying at least a sugar-baby or a couple of good-sized wedges a week.
