Puppy Bowl fans
I am being allowed to write the We Recommend thingy for Sunday on the Puppy bowl. It looks like they are showing it at 3, 6, 9 and midnight. Not repeats, but PB IV several times. Does this seem right?
The fun note this year is that it's high-def for the first time.

Re: Puppy Bowl fans
It seems unlikely, but possible. In previous years, the later showings were repeats. On the other hand, since no script is involved, it wouldn't be all that difficult to turn the dogs loose on the "field" and let 'er rip at reasonable intervals, permitting meals and naps between each show. (They wouldn't even have to use the same puppies each time.)Ritterskoop wrote:I am being allowed to write the We Recommend thingy for Sunday on the Puppy bowl. The final score has always been a 0-0 tie, I believe. I suspect that outcome will continue, as the football toy apparently is less interesting to carry around than all the other fuzzy stuffies and, thus, the ball never quite crosses the goal line.

What makes me very happy about Puppy Bowl IV is that they are using dogs from shelters this year. In previous years, they've used pedigreed puppies and a relatively few mixed breeds that might have belonged to crew members and their acquaintances. The shelter pups will help underscore that dogs don't have to come from breeders in order to be great dogs -- adorable, bright, good-natured, and in desperate need of good homes with people who will love them.

There was an article in the LA Times this morning talking about how one by-product of the sub-prime mortage problem and people losing their homes is homeless household pets. Many time homeowners lose their houses and have to rent apartments and most of them won't allow pets.
It breaks my heart.
I wish I could adopt them all, but my husband would kill me.

SC critiqued it last night. I'll post the final version Sunday, once we go to press. I mentioned the animal shelters.

This is new to me. I will search it out and watch it.
I know I'll love it. So will CaseyGrrl -- she has taken to running over to the television and barking and growling at menacing Rottweilers, bears, badgers, kittens, and balloons. I can usually dissuade her right away if the animal (or other moving object) doesn't make a sound, but if it barks, hisses, or howls, she barks back until it leaves the screen.
Animal Planet is her favorite network.

This is so exciting! This moment may go down in canine sports history! I hope the touchdown didn't end up being nullified by unnecessary roughness in the backfield. Most of the players appear to be better at tackling and piling on than anything else.JBillyGirl wrote:The New York Times has an article on it today, complete with a video clip:

I would have loved playing this game, but they didn't have puppy football when I was little.

GOLD STARS!

GOLD STARS to Skoop!! I would never have watched without her recommendation!
I LOVE that BowlCam!
That little Corgi guarding the water bowl was priceless. (I assume it was a Corgi -- all y'all critter-knowledgeable folkses will correct me if I'm wrong.)
Casey loves it too -- she runs over and barks at the screen, then tries to follow the puppy when it runs off screen.

I love the Corgi and the water bowl, who was penalized. Later another puppy paddles all the water out of the bowl, and gets ejected. Colt was too big for the others, but sweet.
Here's what we ran this morning in the paper:
We Recommend
PUPPY BOWL IV, 3 p.m., ANIMAL PLANET (repeated at 6 and 9)
There is some big game televised at 6:17p.m., but last year’s second-rated program in the same time slot is back. Be afraid. It’s Puppy Bowl IV, with the Kitty Halftime Show for those who prefer felines.
This year’s show steps up to high-definition, so you can count the whiskers. Or tail hairs, or whatever. Harry Kalas, voice of NFL Films, will handle the play-by-play.
We hope the water-bowl cam returns, and we’re keeping our eye on Ellie Mae, a Saint Bernard/Sheperd mix, and Colt, a Bernese Mountain Dog.
This year’s players came from Maryland-area animal shelters.

The Corgi was flagged, not the water bowl.
I did like that the water bowl is under the floor, so they kept stepping in it.
There's one part when they refill it, and everyone is so thirsty, four noses poke into view of the bowl cam.

I entered a Super Bowl squares thing with a coworker. I bought 4 squares for $100, and so far I've won $300 ($200 profit).
I may have to change the channel from the Puppy Bowl repeats.

I needed the final score to be 14-10 to win that extra bit, but a $300 win was still nice.

The people who try to adopt them all end up on the news around here. Last week it was ferrets. The SPCA won't take ferrets, so this one woman tried to rescue them and ended up with about 91 ferrets and over 100 dead ones in her freezer, because she would also take dead ferrets for cremation but got a better rate if she brought them in bulk. So now the shelter had to relax its rules to accomodate her ferrets and she has to have her house professionally cleaned before she can live in it again.PlacentiaSoccerMom wrote:There was an article in the LA Times this morning talking about how one by-product of the sub-prime mortage problem and people losing their homes is homeless household pets.
