Go to a doctor.

Do not share towels.

Wash your (or their) hands all day long.

As noted it can be both, but it is far more typical for a rip roaring case of conjunctivitis to be viral than bacterial.

And typical for it to be treated with an antibacterial drop. Which will do no good what so ever.

Then again it can also be neither. Conjunctivitis is really just a generic term meaning inflammation of the conjunctiva.

Could also be allergic.

Or chemical/toxic.

Or autoinflammatory.

Or fungal.

Or parasitic (such as lice...).

Or..., nah, that's about it.

OK, those last two are pretty rare.
