According to The Mail

Don't know if that's been reported here yet.

My daughter liked the idea...until I told her that meant she'd have to wait longer for the last movie.

There were rumors that Goblet of Fire would be 2 movies.

Didn't happen.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I think the 8 months in the woods can easily be condensed on film.

They can make 1 really, really good 3 hour movie.

According to this:

Rowling herself on her website has sort of confirmed it.

It's so the studio can make more money.

And there wouldn't necessarily be that much more time to wait. They could film both parts at once and release one soon after the other the way they did the last couple of "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies or the "Back to the Future" sequels years ago.

"Soon" probably meaning the following year mostly maximize revenue.

The other part of this rumor is that Spielberg will direct it. After what he did to "War of the Worlds", I'm not so sure I'm happy with that thought. I'd rather have Chris Columbus, the director for the first two, come back.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Give me Cuaron or del Toro.

Please.

I'd prefer two movies to the hash they made of Phoenix.

I think Cal's right, it could be one really stellar three-hour movie.

The rumor is, for the moment, still a rumor.

They talked about splitting Goblet of Fire that way, and I wish they had, because I never was really happy with that adapation. And the seventh book (clearly the best of the bunch, imho) needs to be done justice, and they won't do it justice in a 2.5 hour movie.

ITA tubadave...

This is the LAST book where everything is explained. There are many story lines that need to come to completion, and one movie will not be able to do it!

Hmmm, just a thought, but, I think the perfect person to be cast as Harry in the Future would be the actor who has played Harry's Dad...James.

That would be cool to see.

Well- if they keep adding movies, Daniel Radcliffe will get old enough that HE can play his older self!

And you're assuming they will do the epilogue. I hope to hell not- it was the worst part of the book- it added nothing, IMHO.

I like the idea of ending the movie (beginning with a dissolve of locomotive steam) with a scene of the "next generation" heading to Hogwarts, though you can lose the extraneous Malfoy stuff. One of the highlights of the entire book, to me, was the interaction of Harry with Albus. It tied some overarching themes in a perfect knot.

They'd already done that- tthe scene with young Albus was just spelling it out for those who might not have been able to pick it up.

But maybe in a movie, you have to have that expository scene.

Call me a sucker. I like ending the movie with that little bit of swetness. (I guess that it depends on whether you can get the right kid actor, and really pull off the sentiment of that scene. Anyway, I am envisioning maybe 2 minutes. tops, on it.

Done correctly, I can see where two films could be made. In some sense, the passages in the book that seemed droning and weary=ing on first blush would have great promise on the screen. For example, much oculd be done with the twins' underground radio show.

Unfortunately, I am not sure that there is a good "let's end part one here" moment. (Will need to re-read book, as everything has melded together at the point.)

Best place to end part one that I can think of would be after Godric's Hollow.

Ron has left. Instead of "answers", all Harry gets is an attack and a broken wand.

It is the nadir Harry's fortunes, and a logical stopping point.

I cannot remember if it's close to the halfway mark or not, though.

Some of the events during the "camping scenes" could be taken out of sequence to make it that way. Or you could expand, contract or delete sections to get the timing right. Whether or not the changes will be done well is anyone's guess.
