QOD 1/6 Answers, Comments, Scores, etc

#1 Post by ToLiveIsToFly » Sat Jan 05, 2008 11:13 pm

Ok. So this gets posted a little early.

As jsuchard has noted twice now, it's a definite flaw in the game that you can't wait until you know where everyone stands going into FJ before you make your wager. I wish I knew a good way to do it otherwise (and if y'all have one, I'm all ears come game 2), but it takes time for people to answer questions, it takes time for me to grade and post the scores, and it takes time for people to make wagers. If we halted the game until everyone had a chance to answer all the questions, see the scores, and then bet, we'd have a 3-day pause in the QOD, which brings the phrase "grinding halt" to mind. On the other hand, I've got 28 days' worth of stuff put together, so maybe we can do that at the end of game 4.

"All", "half my score", "all but $4000", "if I'm in first going into FJ, enough to cover the 2nd place person by $1, otherwise $500", etc, are all fine as wagers. And if you bet more than you end up having, I'll adjust your bet.

People for whom I still don't have a FJ wager (or you've posted it and I managed to miss it):

All of y'all, please make a bet before the end of the day Sunday (the Saturday and Sunday games are open until the end of Monday, but the wagering period closes when I post the FJ question)

Jeopardy round - "The River"

In this round, I want the biggest, or main, river that goes through or right by the city in question. In at least one question, I know there is more than one right answer. You only have to give one (and as per J!, if you give a right answer, and then go on to give a wrong one, i have to score you as wrong).

$200 - Chicago

$400 - Hartford (CT)

$600 - Dublin, Ireland

$800 - Portland, OR

$1000 - Timbuktu

Double Jeopardy Round - The Dreaded Before & After

$400 - "When in the course of human events" you have to go to Harry S Truman's hometown

$1200 - This Jack Barry game show met its demise holding a dead man's hand. Hope he beats the devil.

$1600 - Patsy Cline song that was named the Booker of Bookers

$2000 - Commander of Texas forces at the Alamo who lived on the houseboat "Busted Flush"

OK, can I do a different FJ wager? Since you are agreeable to using things other than fixed numbers, I would like to do it differently, if that is OK.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Would it be possible to have the final Jeopardy for the week before be posted in the middle of the second week? For example. FJ for the first 6 days would be posted on this wednesday along with a list of the current scores up through January 6th. That way you have time to grade and post totals and people know who has how much when they make their wager.

Doesn't really matter to me as I am not likely to win and couldn't host next month even if I did. But for those who are at the top might make it easier to wager.
