Here's a short news blurb about Greg's carry-over appearance. Actually, it doesn't even mention that this is a carry-over and that he already started on Friday.

And it's shouted in all-caps.

Judy Garland as icon of the gay community? Hadn't heard that despite my trivial inclination and a number of years in my youth working in community theater where I certainly had one or two acquaintances who happened to be gay.

Hmm, learn something new everyday.

I guess it would help to know when all four died but while I kknew Garland died around that time I was far from sure about all four, particularly Mae West who seemed like a reasonable candidate.

She's an icon of the drag queen community, but that's a small part of the gay community.

In the movie Clueless the gay character was referred to as a "Friend of Dorothy" in reference to Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

The article I linked to last week said his sons are ages 5, 15, and 25. Greg really spaced them out!

so far so good

I had trouble seperating Marilyn Monroe's much earlier death from Garland's in my head, but I succeeded in the time available

Homosexuals are known as "Friends of Dorothy".

If you ever see footage of a Gay Pride parade on television, especially one in San Fran, there always is a large number of people dressed as Dorothy.

Any of you ever seen the movie "My Fellow Americans"? There was a well-known scene in it where the two ex-presidents (Lemmon and Garner) unknowingly march in a West Virginia gay pride parade, and all of the marchers are dressed up as Dorothy.

Thank you, Nelly. I was trying to remember the movie that had all of the Dorothy marchers. i was thinking that Jack Lemmon was involved.
