Lyrically Speaking 12-21-07 Scoring & Such

#1 Post by traininvain » Fri Dec 21, 2007 8:07 am

Easy Rider was on AMC last night, I have no better reason for making today's game from the same year, it's 1969.

LS #15……………………………………….1969

Have Fun & Good Luck!

1. Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelation
And the minds true liberation

2. Made a lightning trip to Vienna
Eating chocolate cake in a bag
The newspapers said
She's gone to his head
They look just like two gurus in drag

3. To you I'm a toy
But I could be the boy you adore
If you'd just let me know (bah dah dah)
Although you're untrue
I'm attracted to you all the more
Why do I need you so

4. You don't need a penny just to hang around,
But if you've got a nickel, won't you lay your money down?
Over on the corner there's a happy noise.
People come from all around to watch the magic boy

5. Gliddy glup gloopy
Nibby nabby noopy
La la la lo lo
Sabba sibby sabba
Nooby abba nabba
Lee lee lo lo
Tooby ooby walla
Nooby abba nabba
Early morning singing song

6. Its just no good anymore since you went away
Now I spend my time just making rhymes of yesterday

7. Every days a new day in love with you
With each day comes a new way of loving you
Every time I kiss your lips my mind starts to wander
And if all my dreams come true
I’ll be spending time with you

8. Leather boots are still in style for manly footwear;
Beads and Roman sandals won`t be seen.
An` football`s still the roughest thing on campus,
And the kids there still respect the college dean.

9. Here we go again
Asking where I've been
You can't see these tears are real
I'm crying

10. Hand out the arms and ammo
We're going to blast our way through here
We've got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolution's here, and you know it's right
And you know that it's right

5. Gliddy glup gloopy
Nibby nabby noopy
La la la lo lo
Sabba sibby sabba
Nooby abba nabba
Lee lee lo lo
Tooby ooby walla
Nooby abba nabba
Early morning singing song

Good Morning, Starshine - Oliver

6. Its just no good anymore since you went away
Now I spend my time just making rhymes of yesterday

One (is the Loneliest Number) - Three Dog Night

(I finally had to mute Vh1 and sing this before I could get it.)

7. Every days a new day in love with you
With each day comes a new way of loving you
Every time I kiss your lips my mind starts to wander
And if all my dreams come true
I’ll be spending time with you

I Love You More Today (than Yesterday)- Grassroots

8. Leather boots are still in style for manly footwear;
Beads and Roman sandals won`t be seen.
An` football`s still the roughest thing on campus,
And the kids there still respect the college dean.

Okie from Muskogee - Merle Haggard and the Strangers

(Merle was one of the staples in the repertoire of my Dad's band. I always thought it was "if a man needs footwear". Of course, I was given the job of listening to a song over and over on the record (or taped off the radio) to get the lyrics right for them, so it's probably wrong. Ha! Or that magazine? What was the name of the magazine that came out each month with lyrics of popular songs? It's going to bug me now.

9. Here we go again
Asking where I've been
You can't see these tears are real
I'm crying

Ooh Baby, Baby - Smokey Robinson and the Miracles

10. Hand out the arms and ammo
We're going to blast our way through here
We've got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolution's here, and you know it's right
And you know that it's right

Sigh... so close to running the table (assuming I'm right on all the other ones, a couple of which are iffy. Ha!)

Because I put him in my ghoul pool entry every year. However, this year I went in a different direction. But he only has another 10 days to worry about that.

Funny. I was going to Google this song today to see what it was called and who sang it. Didn't. Call Out the Instigators? Maybe? And it sounds a little like a very young Joe Walsh, so I'll say the James Gang, even though it's a little too polished for them. At least now I'll get to find out. Great song, by the way. I love the honky-tonk piano part at the end.

What was the name of the magazine that came out each month with lyrics of popular songs? It's going to bug me now.

ONE OF THEM WAS HIT PARADER. THERE WAS ANOTHER CALLED SONG HITS. COUPLE OF OTHERS, TOO, BUT THEIR NAMES ESCAPE ME.

Wasn't Hit Parader more of a music type magazine? It seems to me that I used to get that along with Circus and Creem.

Although that did jog something. It might have been Song Parade or Song Hits? There was also a sister publication that was country music lyrics.

There were articles, but they had lyrics as well, at least back when I was reading it they did. That probably changed at some point. I found an old one up for bid. You can see where they list the songs they have lyrics for inside.

Ohhhh....Hit Parader! I haven't thought about that in years! Yes, they did have lyrics as well as articles.

They also had a feature called Readers Reviews -- if you happen to find a copy from spring of 1972 on eBay (I looked, didn't see one :( ), you might read a review of "Thick As A Brick." Written by the 13-year-old me :)

It was my first published piece! And in those pre-internet days, some of us used to have a thing known as "pen pals." That article got me several pen pals -- one of them was my friend Steve, with whom I corresponded on & off for years, until his untimely death (hit by a truck while on his job, clearing downed power lines after a storm) about 3 years ago.

Wow! Memories!
