Wow. I didn't know he was still around - and according to the article you linked he was still going strong.

I haven't listened to him for years, but remember his noon broadcast of news and opinions and saluting long-time married couples "on their way to forever together." It's probably one of the first newscasts I listened to with any regularity - in high school during the summer and days off, I guess, and although I long ago parted with his political view of the world I'm sure he contributed to my growing up with an interest in what's going on in the world.

My Dad started me listening to Paul Harvey when I worked for him as a new teenager (13ish). My Dad was a faithful listener and would never miss him if a radio was nearby. That desire to want to here Paul Harvey news and comment followed me through college and for many years after. As my noonday habits became more and more inflexible I fell out of the habit, but when I did catch his broadcast I always enjoyed it.

"Did you hear what Paul Harvey said to today?" was one of the most common questions asked at mealtime in my family growing up and even long after.

I'll miss him.

I hadn't been able to catch him on a regular basis in a long time, but I am still sad to know that I will no longer be able to hear the rest of the story.

I first started hearing Paul Harvey when I was living in Switzerland and we could pick up the Armed Forces Radio signal on AM during the evening.

I also would hear him occasionally when in Austin when one of the local stations used to carry him - but haven't heard him in awhile.

While politically I may not have always agreed with him, I always enjoyed listining to his news and his Rest of the Story features. For some reason it felt like I tuned into the the 1950's (I do like old-time radio).

He will be missed and it is nice to know he was still going strong, broadcasting even this year.

I do have to say that one of my favoriate Simpon's bits was when a radio was playing in the background and a Paul Haveyesque voice was saying (paraphrasing) "... and that little boy who nobody liked grew up to become (insert Paul Harvey's trademark dramatic pause) Roy Cohen, and now you know the rest of the story"

While politically I may not have always agreed with him, I always enjoyed listining to his news and his Rest of the Story features. For some reason it felt like I tuned into the the 1950's (I do like old-time radio).

I'm with the Frog on this one. I always compared listening to Paul Harvey to reading the Farmer's Almanac...a delicious slice of genuine Americana.

As for his POV: Whether I agreed or disagreed with him on a particular subject, I always felt that his comments came from the heart. Unlike so many others on the radio today, whose comments seem to come from the spleen instead.
