The gun rumor in school follow-up post

For anyone who may be interested from my post of last week:

Mrs. Jaybee and I had a meeting with the principal and two assistant principals yeaterday morning. Basically a 'clear the air' type meeting in which everyone was well behaved. While everyone agreed that things got a little out of hand, everyone could also see the others point of view. As often happens in things like this, one little thing can cause a huge ripple effect. In this case, when my sons friend talked to a teacher about the gun rumor, the teacher called one of the assistant principals on his radio to tell him that he had some information that he should hear. The AP was busy at the time doing bus duty and could not talk. So the teacher sent a note. A brief note. To the effect of "rumor of gun in school tomorrow. Mxxxxxx Bxxxxxxx and Axxxxxxx Cxxxxxxx."

So that's all the office got - a short note with two students names on it. No mention of anything else.

So take my sons name on a note about a gun in school and add to that the impression from the school that he wasn't telling them anything and you get a full interrogation. We were able to point out the obvious - since he had next to no information about the gun rumor he was not avoiding their questions, he was being truthful in telling them everything he did know.

Their apology was accepted and hopefully the remaining discussion might help a little in the future safety of our school. Maybe, maybe not. But the issue is not over and life goes on.

Thanks for the update Jaybee. I'm glad to see that calm prevailed all around and that issues were aired and understood.

Hope MBee is okay with the resolution and life can settle down for all.
