Re: RIP Millard Fuller
elwing and I had the pleasure of meeting Millard twice - once when we were on vacation in the South and decided to swing by Americus, GA, and visit both Koinonia Farms and the Habitat office. The second was when we were working on a Habitat house here in Louisville and he stopped by to put in a couple hours' work alongside the rest of us. His goal was an admirable one and even though he and Habitat had a falling out a few years ago, it didn't stop his philanthropic bent - he founded a second organization that rehabilitated existing housing using the same "sweat equity" principle.Kazoo65 wrote:co-founder of Habitat for Humanity.

Re: RIP Millard Fuller
His obit from The Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituar ... uller.html
While studying Law at the University of Alabama, he formed a direct-marketing company with Morris Dees – later founder of the Southern Poverty Law Centre – selling cookery books and confectionery to high school chapters of the Future Homemakers of America. The business made them millionaires before they were 30.
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
