Getting home (from Karen & John's in Jefferson) was kinda roundabout! The news stations stated that "residents would be allowed through." Yeah, tell that to Ms. Officer Unfriendly at the Blvd. of the Allies where it splits off between Oakland and the ramp to the Parkway East. No matter that the part of Oakland we live in is nowhere near the part where everyone's going crazy, and all we have to do is go 4 blocks up the Blvd. and 2 blocks to the right (away from the "rioting.") No matter; Parkway one more exit to Greenfield, then up Swinburne and home!

Leah took a chance and took Carson from the Glenwood to the Hot Metal Bridge (right before the closed part, and up Swinburne. She beat us home!

Me and some friends made it down to Oakland after the game. I'd guess 3000 people on the street? It was packed for several blocks. The epicenter was around the Cathedral of Learning, where kids kept trying to rip a spotlight off the pole (once they figured they couldn't bring the pole down). One kid tried it, the cops pulled him off, he tried to run, the cops kicked the crap out of him... and while that was going on, another kid climbed up the pole to try the same thing.

I saw only small fires - I think the bigger fires were to the south of campus, in the residential area. Most of the property damage I saw was street signs, parking meters, and trashcans.

That claim was a long while back, preceding the Stillers' last Super Bowl win. I don't remember a conversation about it then, but that's probably because I don't remember it, not because there wasn't one.
