Don't forget the Puppy Bowl!

#1 Post by Ritterskoop » Sun Feb 01, 2009 11:30 am

I recommended it again in the Sports section this morning in the One to Watch item:

You'll read a few stories elsewhere in this section about a big game with coverage starting at 6 p.m., but only here will you find out what you need to know about the Puppy Bowl.

Pepper the Parrot performs the national anthem.

The puppies are from shelters. Our favorites include Gypsy, a 10-week-old American Cocker Spaniel/Poodle mix, Mac, a 10-week-old German shepherd, and Moose, a 12-week-old Australian Shepherd mix.

We do not so much recommend the Kitty Half-time show, as the kittens seem awfully nervous to us. Not like the puppies, seen at their best -- and most enthusiastic -- by the BowlCam.

NFL Films and Philadelphia Phillies announcer Harry Kalas provides analysis and play-by-play.

Crap. In print, I capitalized Shepherd in one of them but not the other, and misspelled it to boot. Maybe the mugs of the puppies are so cute, no one will notice.

I love the Puppy Bowl!

Shocker. :D

I am sorry to hear that the Kitty Halftime Show is not up to its usual high standards of choreography and razzle dazzle.

I LOVE the Puppy Bowl.

I am disappointed to read the advance notice about the halftime show, however.

For those who want just a peek, the Puppy Bowl is on now and will be repeated throughout the afternoon. Tune to the Animal Planet.

There is a chihuahua in the lineup who is the Calvin Murphy of doggie gridiron.

I think I'm going to be sick......
Squirrels are the architects of forests, the planters of trees, nature's own acrobats and show a zest for life that can inspire us. Every day should be National Squirrel Appreciation Day!

Many of these (squirrel) migrations were probably caused by food shortages as well as habitat overcrowding. We solved that for them. We not only reduced their habitat, we reduced the whole species by about 90%. The least we can do now is share a little birdseed with them.

To be clear, I did not see this year's Kitty Half-time show. I was unrecommending it based on the previous two, in which many of the kittens seemed afraid of the spotlights and moving things.

I saw the Kitty halftime show. They weren't really nervous. I mean, one larger cat was snoring on the 20 yard line. Most of the baby kittehs were having a grand time with the bouncing doodads and one puss was on top of another chomping away at its ears.

The flashing lights, shiny streamers and CONFETTI DROP at the end, however, made me semi-nauseous just thinking about it (if I were a cat). I mean, they were assaulting the senses. The cats looked like What the Major F*?!?!

I thought the Beagle would be MVP. He had several touchdowns in the first half.

Caught myself laughing out loud several times. The puppies were beyond cute but it was Harry Kalas' narration that got me.
