top o' the mornin'®

#1 Post by earendel » Thu Jan 29, 2009 8:02 am

For a couple hours yesterday Rivendell had power, but then it went off again and the prospects for it being restored are not good - the estimates are that we will be without power for 7 to 10 days. Last September we were without for 8 hours, but it was summer/autumn and the weather was OK. Seven to 10 days without power in the winter, with temperatures not supposed to get above freezing, means we'll have to seek alternative shelter. None of our children can put us up, so it's either a shelter or commercial accommodations.

There's supposed to be a trivia contest this Saturday sponsored by one of the local high schools - it's the one that our trivia group enters every year. Last year we did horribly and we are hoping for a chance at redemption. However since schools will be closed for the rest of the week it's possible that the contest will be cancelled. Unfortunately without power I can't get to my e-mail to get the contact information for the person who is the point of contact.

Where's that primal scream thread? :D

Considering how often they come back to Rivendell, that's hardly fair!

Missy and I got the last hotel room here last night and we're not giving it up yet.
I don't know how much longer my mom can hold on and we're wondering how a
service with no power will be. I suggested graveside and my sister about flipped out!
She may have to go with it anyway.

It's still snowing and they say high today of 33.

They would if they could, but oldest son is living in an apartment with the mother of our grandson (with whom he has no real relationship), her parents, her sister and a new baby. Two of the other sons are in an apartment that's just barely big enough for the two of them. And the fourth, married son is living with us for the time being.
